8th Annual Water for People Hike-A-Thon Holbert Trail

This great organization raises money to help people in 3rd world countries get access to clean drinking water. Every year they host a hike-a-thon to raise money and the past few years it has been at the Holbert Trail. I would like to form a team. We can also take part in the optional team challenge.

If you work for a company that gives to charity they are also looking for event sponsors. The sponsorship level starting at $200 and higher get their company logo on the shirts.

The registration form and sponsorship form are in the the files section of our group hiking page.

You will be responsible for submitting your own payment ($20) following the instructions on the registration form. If you pay your fee (put our group as a team) update your RSVP to say you are official ! I don't know if there is day of registrations but I can find out. Participants get a shirt with their registration.

Hiking is at your own pace. We don't have to stay together during the hike.

Water for People had 70 hikers and 85 people with volunteers and raised $2,700 after expenses. Too bad in 5 years I have yet to get anyone from Meetup to attend. I try every year.

You can just show up for this without registering in advance. You may not get a shirt though (they ordered 10 extra). So far almost 80 people are registered and it would be great if some of our members could attend. Look in the files section for the registration form. Deliver that with your $20 the morning of the hike. I will be volunteering and will hike but I am not sure when.

The difficulty is subjective depending on your fitness level. In my beginners hiking group I said this was a moderate hike because half the hike is up hill with long stretches of decent elevation gain. But if you hike Piestewa or Camelback on a frequent basis this hike is not moderate but likely average or if you are in excellent shape (like a runner) perhaps easy.

The hike is 4.1 miles total and I have the profile in the hiking profiles section of "photos". It is the 7th profile. As for the time commitment, once you check in at the registration table I think you can start hiking but I will check on that for you. If you do your own thing and hike by yourself you could be done within 2 hours. If you choose to hike with others and participate in the challenge maybe 3 hours.
