The Abbey of Hope is a virtual community being gathered by graduates of the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine (ChIME). It is being gathered as an interfaith fellowship for postgraduate ChIMErs, the larger ChIME community and is open and welcoming to all. It is a virtual community being gathered within the framework of a cooperation circle within the United Religions Initiative.
Our interfaith calendar identifies religious holidays of many traditions with information about the holidays coupled with reflection.
Our community is physically located in Southern Maine. We currently don’t own any real estate. All activities are done in other people’s real estate. In meetings, retreats, conferences, faith communities, community gatherings, and at cultural events. Information about our programming and activities can be found on the website. Also published here are offerings from our community members.
The Abbey of HOPE is an interfaith community gathered to promote, facilitate and encourage interfaith understanding through educational opportunities, programming, retreats, pilgrimages, missioning, conferences, interfaith gatherings, projects and service. The heart of the Abbey is fellowship and peace building through shared activity, education, experience, service and dialogue. HOPE does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, ability, gender, marital status, belief, age, national origin, or sexual orientation.
Bill Gregory and Angie Arndt will co-lead this class designed to cultivate a deeper understanding and experience of spiritual life.
While respecting the rational world views that help us all define reality we will expand our world views by developing our spiritual knowing. Drawing largely but not exclusively from Christian spiritual tradition we will explore the themes of listening, imagination, dreams, prayer and mystical experience. Woven into the curriculum is the invitation to discern one’s gifts and how God/Love/Life is calling you to give them to where you are called, as Frederick Buechner says, to where the world’s deep hunger and your deep joy meet.
