Ableton Certified Trainers Dan Giffin and James Patrick will share some of their favorite music production tips and tricks along with a deep-dive into the new features of the software’s newest version, Ableton 11. MEET DAN GIFFIN - As a well-experienced producer and performer, Dan Giffin has taught Grammy-winning artists the ins and outs of making music with Ableton Live. He currently produces under the artist name Philia, teaches Ableton through his website LiveProducersOnline.com and hosts the Ableton Music Producer Podcast. He specializes in subjects like setting up a live performance, creative mixing with Live devices, music production workflows and beat making. Dan teaches private lessons as well as classes at multiple recording studios in Indianapolis, IN, where he has collaborated with major label artists including Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, The Band Perry and others. In 2018 Dan started Philia, a jazz-infused bass music project blending heavy hitting drums, keys, saxophone and improvised DJing. The group has shared the stage with artists including Tiesto, Slushii and Manic Focus, and performed at major festivals including Electric Forest in Rothbury, MI. MEET JAMES PATRICK James Patrick is a Minneapolis-based DJ and music producer, label owner, and educator. James has over 20 years of professional experience performing at and directing electronic music events, including curation of the International Spark Festival. A pilot member of the Ableton Certified Trainer program, James participated in the first wave of trainer certifications in 2006 and has been a critical force among the user base in the United States. After more than a decade of teaching synthesis and sound design at various institutions including Dubspot and the Institute for Production and Recording, in 2012 James co-founded Slam Academy where he currently teaches and leads curriculum development. James uses his professional involvement in both academic and popular electronic realms to unite the creative energy, ideas, and people of his community. SLAM ACADEMY is an electronic music school founded in 2012 by Ableton Certified Trainers Dr. J. Allen and James Patrick. Both have dedicated their professional lives to sound arts as performers, researchers, and educators; and, collectively have more than four decades experience teaching in higher education.
