    An evening of sewing with experts on hand to help and wonderful machines from standard to walking foot!   • ACE Metal Shop Basics

    In this 2 hour brief of the Metal shop, participants will learn safe handling of various tools and materials in the shop including:

    * horizontal + vertical bandsaws
    * drill press
    * various smaller bench-top and hand-held tools like shears, pop riveters
    * grinders, and more.

    Differences in material hardness will also be covered, such as copper and aluminum vs mild steel vs stainless steel. Time allowing we may also go over various meta concepts will be discussed such as Metric vs Imperial vs SAE and handling tolerances.

    Masks and vaccinations are required BEFORE THE WORKSHOP. Learn more below

  • Woodshop Tools Intensive

    Learn the basics on 4 major tools in 5 hours

    This workshop goes over the core principles of using 4 large woodworking tools. We will be meeting in Room 214. There are instructions at the door to be buzzed in.

    Timing
    This class is 5 hours.

    What you will learn
    Learn the basics and become certified on these major workshop tools:
    ~ Table Saw
    ~ Band Saw
    ~ Jointer
    ~ Planer
    ~ We will cover the proper use, dust collection, safe use of the saws, and shop protocols.
    ~ The successful completion of the class counts as Certification.

    What to bring :
    A notebook or well-charged phone for taking notes.

    What to wear :
    Closed-toe shoes, short sleeves and, work clothes. Long hair must be tied back.

    Safety Gear :
    Eye protection, and ear protection, and all the hand sanitizer will be provided. If you are fussy, bring your own.

    This class requires a minimum of 3 students per session. If the class is canceled we can offer a refund but otherwise do not.

  • Cement Casting Workshop

    Cast your own unique set of coasters as well as a planter or two in this 4-hour workshop.

    Vaccinations with verification are required. Masks will be optional. Learn more below.

    We will explore a variety of techniques using quick-dry cement:
    • Different mold types
    • Creating a mold from scratch
    • Sealing and decorating your pieces

    Each person will create 3 pieces.

    All materials are included but feel free to bring your own bits of inspiration.

    Form more fragile pieces you will have a box with you to take them home so they can keep setting up.

    • Core principles for safe lathe operation
    • Various secure mounting techniques for both square and rectangular blocks
    • How to approach them from various faces/directions.
    • How to identify possible issues with various steps in the process

  • Laser Open Lab: Focus on Focus

    Welcome to the Laser Open Lab. This month we will be focusing on focus. How to align and focus on various material types based on etching or cutting needs.

    Laser open labs are a series of demonstrations and an opportunity to ask an expert to help you gain laser skills. Each open lab will have a central topic but all questions are welcome. Please let us know in the comments what you are most interested in learning. Folks who bring a project they want to get help with will get a lot of out of this open lab.

    This tour starts at 7pm sharp! One tour only this evening. Please DO NOT arrive more than 5 min. early or late as we will not be able to accommodate extra tours or early starts. Thank You.

  • Metal Open Lab: Taps and Dies

    In this 2 hour brief of Taps + Dies, participants will learn the basics of using the tools required to create threads for male and female components to help assemble various creations. The concept of thread chasing will also be covered. This Open Lab is suitable for beginners though we recommend familiarity with basic tools first.
