Love to circuit bend kids audio toys. Robotics/maker enthusiast but electronics beginner. LED/flashlight geek, wannabe synthesizer/audio tinkerer. Love to cut, polish (& facet) big hunks of optical glass, obsidian, manzanita, etc. Want to learn metalworking. Wd spend ~30% of my time doing all that and cobbling the results, w mechanics/electronics, into functional toys, bizarre rechargable lamps, art objects, wacko machines, obscure camera obscuras, ultra-low-frequency-generating, glowing, "mad scientist" gear. Used Perl to tune and training-set wrangle for machine learning text categorization tools and fancy search gizmos. Then it was 2001 and no one would pay me to do that anymore. Been out of programming for a spell. Want to learn Ruby, etc. See Fluidinfo.com as fascinating evolution-oriented alternative to google's more structured freebase.com. My real life's work prob'ly helping midwife the infrastructure for structured but open-ended collaborative knowledge building.
Creative designer/tinkerer/instigator, infosci background, scifi leanings. General meta- head. Sci educn, wonder, surplus optics, analog robotics, neo-artisanship, prefer deco to steampunk. Maker/OSrc ethos diffusing thruout culture. This time we win
Great, eclectic, very active group with nice facilities and collaborative, exploratory, and outreach facets. There's a good bit of room for new people with energy to make things happen, so don't be shy.
