- Early Morning on the Econ River - Down-river Kayaking
The Econ River flows through Osceola, Orange, and Seminole counties in Central Florida, just east of the Orlando Metropolitan Area (east of State Road 417). It is a designated Outstanding Florida Waters. It's full name, Econlockhatchee, is said to be a Muscogee name meaning “earth-mound stream”... which is fitting because there are white sugar sand burms and embankments all over this river, making it look quite different than most rivers in Florida. It is COMPLETELY wild out here... there will be no signs of civilization between our launch and take-out spots... other than perhaps some other humans playing on the river. Wildlife we may encounter include numerous wading birds and birds of prey, lots of fish, possible deer and otters, and alligators. This river does not get nearly enough credit, and is still a bit of a secret spot. It gets pretty low in the dry season, but since the summer rains have begun, the river should be at a really nice level for a nice slow drift down-river. Paddling this stretch, even at a leisurely pace, should take about 3 hours or so. *THE TIME IT TAKE TO PADDLE THIS STRETCH MAY VARY, DEPENDING ON WHAT COOL STUFF WE SEE AND HOW GREAT A TIME WE’RE HAVING. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE A SUPER TIGHT SCHEDULE... WE’RE OUT HERE TO SOAK IN THE NATURE AND ENJOY OURSELVES* YOU SHOULD BRING; - comfortable outdoor clothing - a change of clothing and/or towel - sunscreen - water and/or other beverage of choice - a camera of some sort - an adventurous attitude THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO; Though this stretch of river is not too difficult, it is important that participants be able to swim and are not afraid of getting caught up in some trees or branches every now-and-then. There are also a healthy number of alligators on this river, so you should be prepared for and willing to see some... though I will be with the group and have never had a problem with gators, I promise (they are actually really cool to see in their natural environment!). Kayak rentals are included at $40 per person for this event, but the equipment provider is not on location, so you WILL have to RSVP and pay in advance to reserve (I'll contact you once you RSVP to see what kind of boat you want and to provide payment options) your spot and so we know what type and how many boats to bring. Currently there are 3 tandems and 7 singles available (13 open spots), please RSVP here, and I'll contact you about your boat preference and payment to reserve it. I hope to see you all out on the river soon!
- 2019 COPA AMERICA La FINALE : Peru (Los Incas) v Brazil (Seleção)
Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino took the hosts through to Sunday’s final and continued Lionel Messi’s international trophy drought. But OMG Brazil will play Peru... Punters got their fingers burnt backing Brazil to beat Venezuela but those Copa America losses can be recovered when Peru take on the hosts in Sao Paulo. The Selecao had previously cruised to a 3-0 triumph over Bolivia and had a trio of goals ruled out via VAR decisions in midweek, so there is little wrong with their form. Tite’s team are 11/10 to win to nil Peru are a likeable outfit and they followed up a goalless stalemate with Venezuela by coming from behind to beat Bolivia 3-1. Having trailed to a VAR-awarded Marcelo Moreno penalty, Los Incas struck either side of the interval to turn the game on its head. Paolo Guerrero used his pace to fire home and then turned provider to assist Jefferson Farfan, who headed in a cross from the striker. Edison Flores put the icing on the cake deep into stoppage time to give Peru every chance of reaching the knockout stages. However, they were beaten 2-0 on home turf by the Selecao when these teams last met in a November 2016 World Cup qualifier and 23/4 for a repeat result takes the eye from the Peru vs Brazil odds. Brazil were jeered by their own fans after drawing 0-0 with Venezuela, but that felt a touch harsh following some unfortunate VAR rulings. Roberto Firmino managed to find the net in the 38th minute, but the goal was chalked off after the referee ruled he had fouled in the process. Gabriel Jesus had another effort disallowed and Philippe Coutinho’s late strike was ruled out after VAR showed a handball by Firmino in the build-up. The hosts were in possession for more than two thirds of the match and had nearly 20 attempts on goal, but the absence of mercurial star Neymar was sorely felt. Even so, Jesus did look sharp when coming off the bench and he opened the scoring in that World Cup clash with Los Incas mentioned above. Let’s go DT to the Lion. What is gunna b Hella-Goals Lol ! Arrive at 3.30 PM for Kick-off is 4 PM EST.

- Volunteering - Painting for First United Methodist
Since the church address spans the whole block, I've provided an address in the description is immediately across the street from our meeting location. We should be easily in eyesight from there. First United Methodist Church helps out in various ways, from their Picnic Project (which serves food every weekend to homeless people who otherwise might not even have a meal) to offering donations from those who can offer them. UPDATE: First United Methodist Church is opening a grocery-store to help the homeless (where items are much cheaper then they'd be in a typical grocery store and are purchased with points) and needs help with painting before the store opens. It'll be indoors, so wear something paint-friendly.
- 2019 COPA AMERICA : Brazil v Argentina (Semi-Finals)
This is the big one. Football Powerhouse (Brazil) v Football Powerhouse (Argentina).... The traditional powerhouses also have plenty of questions. The hosts' being without Neymar has caused some anxiety, but frankly, they've performed ok without him. Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus, fresh off fine seasons for Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively, will get the chance to definitively lead the line. Argentina have Messi back and fully engaged in the cause, but the squad around him -- 15 of the 23-man squad have fewer than 15 international caps -- is always a concern. He has often struggled when having to "do it all himself," but this raw squad lacks the muscle memory of back-to-back defeats in the Copa final, both times to Chile. It might breed a sense of fearlessness that spurs them forward. Plenty of scrutiny will fall on interim boss Lionel Scaloni in what amounts to his first full-time management role, having previously been a national team assistant under Jorge Sampaoli and at Sevilla.
