What we're about
Are you someone who has already paddled most of the flat water outings listed in the kayak guidebooks and want to try something different? Do you love exploring quiet, remote waterways that few people see from a boat? Do you enjoy the challenge of portaging your boat and gear to access remote waterways? Do you own an ultralight pack canoe or kayak and want to really experience all this craft has to offer? Then this group could be for you!!
I'm forming this group in hopes of finding other like minded paddlers who dont mind putting in extra effort to explore remote waterways. Most all outings will be day trips in the adirondack park though some may be in some of the surrounding areas. Generally the trips will be all day and many will be physically demanding in nature due to the carrying of boat and gear - sometimes over non wheelable terrain, beaver dams, mud, etc. Paddlers new to this type of outings are welcome, but I strongly recommend some level of comfort and experience with both paddling and remote back country outings. At the very least you'll need to be physically fit and primed for adventure! This is not everyone's cup of tea which is why I'm forming a group to search for others who share my passion.
It is not a requirement to own an ultralight canoe, a set of portage wheels and recreational kayak will work fine for many outings. Some outings will have no portages at all.
Meetup organizer is slowly recovering from an injury so outings will start easy and gradually increase in difficulty.
