2918 FL-20, Panama City, FL
Let's take an 8 mile round trip hike from the Florida Trail's trailhead on Hwy 20 to Rattlesnake Lake. If you're not familiar with this hike the trail head starts up on Hwy 20 and the closest landmarks most people would probably know would be Econfina Creek/Pitt Spring where the AWDBG goes a lot during the Summer months. In this case we'll drive to the trailhead on Hwy 20 which is like driving most of, but not all the way to the creek, and then walk about 4 miles Northeast through different terrains that are mostly flat, but include a couple bodies of water and a gorgeous forest with a lichen floor. Ultimately we'll arrive at a recreational lake called Rattlesnake Lake, do lunch (bring a packed lunch) and turn around and hike back. Any questions, just ask! The only challenging thing about this hike is spotting the trailhead on Hwy 20 where it only gets a tiny little sign to hint at its location, hiding just behind it in the trees a really nice woodsy parking area and trailhead waiting for you to explore. Try doing a Google map address search for "2918 FL-20, Panama City, FL 32409" to help get an idea where it is if you're new to it.
