Big Data DC is excited to participate in the global Big Data Week (http://bigdataweek.com/). We are very lucky to have Will Gorman, Chief Architect of Penthao, coming in from California to present to our group. I've known Will for a long time and I'm sure the talk will be great. In addition to being a great software engineer Will is also an award winning LEGO designer. Hopefully he will share some of the secrets behind things like the model of Mars Curiosity he built in partnership with NASA (http://www.battlebricks.com/curiosity/).
Here is the abstract for Will’s talk:
Traditional visualization and data exploration tools struggle to deal with the many qualities that define big data. What visualizations are useful for exploring datasets that are orders of magnitude larger than the number of pixels on your computer screen? What data structures and algorithms are useful for exploring sparse, schemaless datasets? How do you deal with a petabyte of dirty data? How do you empower your business users so that they can explore this data? In this talk, we'll discuss the algorithms, architectures, and solutions that address these scenarios. Will Gorman is the Chief Architect at Pentaho, a software company focused on building Big Data Analytics software.
