- Website Weekend Los Angeles
Website Weekend LA is an event that brings together passionate digital professionals with awesome non-profit organizations. They partner to build wonderful and dynamic new websites over the course of a weekend. It's not just about building websites, it's about building platforms that help non-profits help their communities and spread their message to a wider audience. Important Links: • Website Weekend LA website (http://websiteweekend.la/) • Volunteer signup form (http://websiteweekend.la/volunteer-signup-form/) • Event FAQs (http://websiteweekend.la/faq) We are specifically looking for a few experienced WordPress developers to help mentor our teams in setting up and building out a WordPress website for their assigned nonprofit. If you have experience developing with WordPress and can help out for all or part of either Saturday and/or Sunday, please get in touch! We'd love to have your help. We're also currently looking for a graphic/web designer to help out on one of the nonprofit projects. Ideally, this person would be available for the entire event. Please email any questions or referrals to natalie [at] girldevelopit.com.

- October WorkPress: WordPress Coworking
WordPress workers unite! Bring your laptops, coffee, notebooks, and something to work on (a project, something you'd like to learn, an experiment you'd like to try, etc) Feel free to bring friends, coworkers, your mentor, your employees, or anyone at all along with you. We'll kick off each morning with a quick standup to introduce ourselves and talk about what we'll be working on and what we might need help with. Get help with something you're stuck on or jump in to help someone else where they're stuck. Collaborate with other WordPress peeps on a project. Or just enjoy being and working around other WordPress nerds for a few hours. :-) We won't be serving food, but you are welcome to bring your own brown bag lunch, or visit one of the local eateries - there's no shortage affordable and delicious food available nearby, so expect to head out at lunchtime as a group to find something wonderful to eat. Please Note: This is a coworking event. There will not be presentations or workshops and there will not be a Happiness Bar where you should expect one-on-one support or consulting. The purpose of this event is to come with your own work to be done and work in the company of other WordPress designers/developers/users who will be able to answer quick questions or engage in watercooler-type chats throughout the day, much as you'd expect in a typical office workplace. Keep in mind that everyone will be bringing their own work to be done, and we need to respectful of each others' time, energy, and attention. Price: $20/day! This is a discount off the usual 1-day coworking fee of $25 at Kleverdog Coworking. Huge thanks going out to Kleverdog for hosting us and offering a deal! Additionally, those who are already paying members of Kleverdog Coworking and those who pay monthly dues to SoCal WP won't be charged any additional fee for attending this coworking day. You may pay online by credit/debit card in advance of the meetup or pay the day of. At the venue we'll accept cash or credit/debit card. Venue Sponsor: Kleverdog Coworking Location Kleverdog Coworking is located on Bamboo Lane - a small alley that runs between Hill and Broadway near Chinatown's Central Plaza. Look for the Kleverdog banners and the red door with 418 A-C painted on it. Parking While there's plenty of street parking available in the area, it is all metered, and you don't want to get stuck trying to remember to run out and feed a meter every couple of hours. The best bet for all-day parking is Bamboo Plaza - the entrance is on Bernard Street, a block north of Kleverdog. There are also some other parking lots in the area: Map of lots and rates for all-day parking. (http://www.parkme.com/map?lat=34.066003&lng=-118.237274) But, wait! There's more. Kleverdog is just a couple blocks from the Chinatown Gold Line stop. Easy to walk, and no downtown parking hassles. Do yourself a favor and take public transportation, folks. If you don't live near a Metro station, there are several stops along Metro lines with low cost or free park and ride lots - just drive to the one nearest you and leave your car there, then hop on the train. Or be super duper eco fitness kid and ride your bike to the nearest station. More info about Park n Ride lots (http://www.metro.net/around/paid_parking/)
- Advanced WordPress October Meetup
One week before we all head up to the mothership for WordCamp San Francisco, let's gather together and geek out about WordPress. I heard a rumor that we might talk about elastic search and the Customizer.
