Our guests for an exciting December session will be Laura E. Hall ( and Mink Ette (, the co-creators of Spark of Resistance (, a room escape game based out of Portland with an elaborate backstory featuring a missing colleague amidst Orwellian government machinations.

Laura E. Hall is an avid player and community organizer for some of the earliest alternate reality games and an interactive strategist at Wieden & Kennedy. Mink is an accomplished creator of games and theater with experience at some of the most well-known names in ARGs & immersive theater: Coney, Punchdrunk, Six To Start, and the BBC.

Laura and Mink are bringing their knowledge and experience together with the rest of their cofounders at 60 Minutes to Escape ( to break new ground in room escape games.

A series of clocks on the wall. A small TV. Dystopian propaganda posters. A scribbling of Chinese characters on the wall. "Does anybody know Chinese?" one of the engineers muttered. Everybody shook their head no. "Don't worry about that," the woman in the glasses said. "That's not part of this."

As we explored and discovered more secrets in the room, we learned that "Spark of Resistance" is more than just a game – it's an impeccably designed puzzle that relies on a diverse set of skills, from word jumbles (where the journalist comes in handy) to work with electrical components (thank you, engineers). –The Oregonian (

Laura and Mink are going to talk with us about the game design, iteration and construction processes behind Spark of Resistance.
