Many of us have been thinking since the election of how to help the country in what is sure to be a difficult four years to come. As experience designers, much of what we do serves as entertainment, escape, and distraction. But we also have tremendous power through our craft. Our work implicates audiences personally in a way other forms can't. We create things that move people, that affect them, that awe them and transform them. We might have something to contribute.
This will be a collaborative discussion, collective airing of thoughts and concerns, and venue for serious thought (and hopefully plans) as to what we can do. There are no speakers, but Jenny Gottstein (http://www.jennygottstein.com/), Director of Games at The Go Game and team member at Valued Voters (http://valuedvoters.org/about), will be helping moderate the conversation. Expect to contribute!
Location: Newnow, 2100 West Street, Oakland (near 19th St BART)
- We'll start with some quick history of some experiences or art that have made a difference in past political situations.
- We'll then have an open forum for anyone currently working on anything in this area to share what's cooking -- or for anyone to share ideas of what they'd like to work on.
- Finally, we'll split up into smaller groups in whatever way seems most appropriate to continue the conversation and hopefully move some of these projects along.
