TRAINING FOR UPCOMING BACKPACKING 10M ABOUT 3,500G WITH 30 LBS IN YOUR PACK!

  • May 19, 2013 · 6:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

You are free to come along even if you are not training. Join us on this training hike from Chantry Flats to Manzanita Ridge.  We will be training for our Memorial Day backpacking trip.  Please be sure to carry a pack that weighs 30 lbs.

This is a beautiful trail. One of my favorites!  We will hike to Manzanita Ridge along a shady and lush trail.  Even though the weather may be hot, we will be under the canopy of trees and we doing a few creek crossings.

Please bring:  Repellant!  There are mosquitos and no-see ums everywhere, plenty of water, snacks, lunch, poles if you use them, and your ten essentials.

WE ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL HIKERS OR LEADERS. WE ARE SIMPLY INVITING YOU ON THIS HIKE. BE AWARE THAT HIKING CAN BE DANGEROUS AND THAT MISHAPS MAY HAPPEN.  PLEASE KNOW YOUR OWN LIMITATIONS. BY SIGNING UP, YOU AGREE THAT YOU WILL NOT HOLD THE GROUP, ITS LEADERS OR MEMBERS LIABLE FOR ANY MISHAP YOU MAY SUFFER AND THAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS.

This was a great training hike. It was also so unexpectedly beautiful! Can't wait to return again and explore some more.

Bob; thanks for being a great host. I will definitely do another hike with the group. Maybe next time I will meet Aida.

The shaded trail was just right for a sunny day. A pleasant mix of creek bottom and ridge route.

I will not be able to make the hike. Someone hit the back of my truck while I was stopped and damaged the tailgate so now I have to deal with the claim and need to empty the bed of all gear since it will not close/lock. So needless to say I will not get much sleep tonight and I will not have time to pack the essentials. So a local hike will have to do tomorrow since I can't join you all. Have a happy and safe adventure hike!!!!! I hope I can do this hike in the future...it sounded great! Ug! :(

I will be joining you all for the first time in the group. I have been a backpacker and hiker for many years but have not been out in a while. Instead I have been cycling 30+ miles 3 days a week and doing long walks and light to medium 5-6 mile hikes from time to time. This one will be fun and if it gets too much for me I will simply turn back. So Mara will not be alone possibly. :D Can't wait.

      Lol. Thanks Gina!

It's still kinda "iffy" for me - I haven't hiked like this in almost 4 months (since winter in Baldy), and a few hikes here and there (only Saddleback etc.). It's not the distance - it's the gain. If I'm not there when you start out at 6:45 a.m., I totally wussed out.

Are we hiking Wilson? What trail are you planning on doing?

seem like you guys are going to take the Lower Winter Creek trail to Manzanita Ridge, then heading down the Upper Winter Creek trail...base on the elevation gain and miles from the write ups.

Sorry to cancel. Let someone else have my spot.

Hi guys. I may not be able to make it all the way, but I'm training for Sections C and D of the PCT, and I'd like to join you even if I have to turn back if the elevation is too high. I hiked with Bob last year and I'm somewhat slow. Do you have any problems with that? Thanks a lot.
