American Tobacco Trail (ATT) Ride
Please read the following description. I'll only answer questions that are not covered in it.
It's getting close to the longest day of the year, so we'll be trying to make the whole distance this week. Try to be on time and ready to saddle up and ride at 6:30. We will be starting at one of the entrances near SouthPoint Mall in Durham. Final directions to the meeting place will be e-mailed to attendees on the day prior to the event. Due to the fact that we are nearing solstice, we’ll be riding for about 2.5 hours, so hopefully the full southern section of 28 miles round trip. It will be getting a little dark at the end, so bring your bike lights if you have them. If you haven't been riding this kind of distance at around 12 mph, this may be a bit too strenous.
For those unfamiliar with the trail:
This ride is on an easy trail, but does involve some distance. If you have not been riding similar numbers of miles on road or hardpack, you may be extremely tired, sore and/or be cramping up by the end.
The American Tobacco Trail is a rails to trails (quite flat) shady, wide recreational multi use trail. It is open to walkers, runners, bikers, and horses. Mountain bikes are recommended, but hybrids or road bikes can be used. The entire ride will be on good surfaces; either paved or screened granite.
Helmets are REQUIRED for this ride, and you'll want 1 liter of water or so.
We will gather for food after the ride, for those who are interested.
Any drop outs on less than 36 hrs notice will be considered "no show"
Looking forward to seeing you on the ride!
