Join your THOG friends for an adventure by exploring all that Stone Mountain has to offer!
Stone Mountain State Park has cascading waterfalls, a mountain stream, quiet forests abundant with wildlife, scenic hiking trails and a historic mountain homestead. One of the park's most spectacular features is Stone Mountain, a 600-foot granite dome. Stone Mountain is about 2.5 hours from Chapel Hill.
We will hike a total of about 9 miles which will include the Stone Mountain Trail Loop that will take us to the top of Stone Mountain. We'll stop by a couple of waterfalls along our route and swing by the homestead at the bottom. Trail difficulties range from Moderate to Strenuous. There will be stairs to climb. Be mindful of your hiking abilities.
-Bring water (1-2 Liters), snacks and Lunch
For your safety, hiking boots/shoes are recommended since there might be some wet and slippery spots on the slopes. If the rock face is wet, we will not walk down the slope.
We'll meet at the Harris Teeter parking lot at 1800 MLK, Jr. Blvd in Chapel Hill on Saturday morning to setup carpools. Plan to meet at 7:00AM in front of Harris Teeter in the parking lot at the spaces farthest away from the store entrance. Expect to be back in the Triangle by 7PM.
Please be sure to share the cost of gas with your driver.
