On this St. Patrick’s Day, work up an appetite for that green beer by joining us for a 9-mile point-to-point hike from Turkey Run Park to Roosevelt Island along the beautiful Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. You may think you know our National Capital Area, but hidden from the George Washington Parkway is a secret world of rolling hills, rock scrambles, waterfalls, varied terrain, river views, historic relics, and (most surprisingly) quiet. Besides the distance, our challenges will include steep hills (with 1300 feet of elevation gain all told), interesting stream crossings, and rock scrambles, all combining to make this a moderate-to-strenuous hike. Bring weather-appropriate clothing (layers), sturdy boots, water, lunch, and a few bucks for transportation and trip fees. Meet at the Rosslyn Metro Station (N. Moore Street exit) at 9 a.m. From there we’ll form shuttles to the trailhead at Turkey Run Park. There should be lots of free street parking in Rosslyn on Sunday, but we’ll need at least a few drivers for the shuttle.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the hike leaders: Priyanga ([masked] or[masked]) or Jeff ([masked] or[masked]).
