Officially, spring has S-P-R-U-N-G! We’re taking a trip to Sugarloaf Mountain, located in Frederick County, Maryland to frolic among the many species of plants and wildflowers as they don their spring colors. You may remember many cold winter hikes on Sugarloaf, as it’s the site of Adventuring’s annual winter solstice/poetry hike. On this hike, we’ll visit at a different time of year to explore the many microhabitats this popular mountain offers. Our moderate 8-mile circuit hike will loop us around the mountain with about 1700 feet of elevation gain. Those feeling extra energetic can make the short, steep climb up to Sugarloaf’s summit. We’ll meet at the station manager’s kiosk at the Shady Grove Metro station at 8:30 am to get an early start on the crowds. Bring comfortable/sturdy footwear, water, sunscreen, bug spray, $5 for trip/transportation fees, and a lunch--we won’t be making the customary pitstop along the way. Those wishing to drive directly to Sugarloaf should contact our trip leader David for directions and a rendezvous time.
