Evening Cherry Blossom Hike & Dinner

  • Apr 14, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will meet at the top of the escalators at the Waterfront Metro (Green Line, 4th and M Street SW) Monday evening at 6 p.m. sharp. We'll have to leave promptly at 6, since our remaining daylight will be limited.

TIP: If you are late, just head to the Tidal Basin and take the path clockwise around the Basin. Hopefully, you can pick us up among the throngs of other blossom peepers.

We will make a leisurely loop around the Tidal Basin, passing by the Jefferson Memorial, the FDR Memorial and the King Memorial before finally returning to the Waterfront area, a round-trip walk of approximately 4 easy miles.

Afterward, dinner at Station 4 Restaurant near the Waterfront Metro will be an option. The only required cost is the $2 trip fee. The restaurant afterwards is optional and is not included in the trip fee. If you plan on attending the dinner, please indicate so in your reply. Cameras are welcome. Pocket flashlights can be helpful at the end of the hike if the sky is overcast.

Note that all of the trails are paved, and the pace is leisurely as noted above. Accordingly, come as-you-are from work (…and you may want to bring sensible walking shoes if your work shoes are unsuitable for a four-mile walk). At least one car will be parked at the starting point to deposit briefcases, computer bags, a change of shoes, etc.

The evening hike around the Tidal Basin as great. I had a chance to meet great people and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.

Sorry I am invited to a Passover seder. Hard to make these events on a holiday.

Sorry we missed you Bill. The choice this year was either the Thu or Fri before the peak weekend, or the Mon or Tue after. In retrospect, Thu or Fri might have been better ... and had I realized Monday was Passover night, I probably would have lobbied for Fri. Of course, had all the spring flowers not been so incredibly late this year, the point would be moot. Hope to see you soon -- Brett

And thanks to Jeff, Jessica, and Marc for posting photos -- we certainly did a good job documenting the portraitists we saw!

Thanks for joining John and me! The blossoms were a bit past peak this year, and our old dinner standby, Pier 9 Restaurant, is now gone, but at least we got the weather right! Hope to see you all again soon on a future Adventuring hike or bike ride.

An excellent walk with excellent people, followed by excellent camaraderie over a well priced dinner.

My 4th and final cherry blossom hike of 2014. Thank you Brett for making it memorable, enjoyable and fun. The camaraderie both during the hike and afterwards at dinner was very nice. I look forward to seeing everyone again at the Spring Social.. if not before. Thanks again.

Sensational weather and company to match made for an outstanding event from start to finish. Plenty of blossoms were still on the trees, but they were mostly overshadowed by the burgeoning foliage. I think we finished the hike in record time, if only because crowds were not as dense as in other years. Very nice dinner at Station 4 to top everything off. Thanks, Brett!

I can testify after guiding a bunch of Canadians around town for the last 3 days that the blossoms are truly at their peak and are more splendid than ever, eh? Get oot and enjoy them!

Hi again - as of now there are 8 people going to the dinner. I've been asked when the rspv deadline is; please be sure to update your rsvp with your going/ not going status by 12:00 noon on Monday. I'd like to finalize the headcount on my lunch hour so that I don't have to worry about it during the afternoon as I cruch to leave the office on time and meet you all! :-)

Having said this, of course, there will probably be flexibility when we get to the restaurant *if* they are not busy.

**Today's Blossom Update** - blossoms still look great! And, it looks like the weather will be superb!

I've been checking out the blossoms as I go to/from work via the Yellow Line; they have opened up nicely the last couple days and, barring hail/ hurricanes/ etc., it's looking good for Adventuring's two upcoming cherry blossom hikes!

Craig - thanks for your diligence with 'Blossom Watch' this year - in return I'll buy you a beverage at Station 4!

Is anyone familiar with Station 4 restaurant? The website shows a very nice (and expensive!) dining room menu, and a bar area with a fairly large and much more reasonably-priced food menu. Right now I'm leaning towards requesting the bar area rather than the dining room. http://www.station4dc.com/
