(Modified itinerary; hike length shortened.) Celebrate Presidents Day with this urban hike featuring two of our area's most historic cemeteries, with a route that takes us through much of the heart of the city. We'll start with a walk around the sections of Arlington National Cemetery holding the graves of two Presidents, William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy, as well as the gravesites of numerous Supreme Court Justices and of Abraham Lincoln's son Robert. Because the sidewalks across Memorial Bridge are closed, we'll then Metro to the Federal Triangle station to begin our urban hike. We'll lunch inside Union Station before heading to Congressional Cemetery, where we'll do a short tour focused on its many LGBT occupants. We'll end our day at the nearby Potomac Avenue Metro Station. Total length of this easy hike, including the two cemetery tours, will not exceed 6 miles, with little change of elevation. Bring beverages, lunch (or buy one at Union Station's food court), comfortable walking shoes and the $ 2 trip fee. Meet at 10 a.m. inside the Arlington Cemetery Metro Station by the station attendant's kiosk.
