  • SF Rotor Derby - - FPV Racing meets Drone Combat

Join ASL for the premiere of the newest team-based drone sport - ROTOR DERBY.

Based on the retro-classic roller derby but updated with flying drone competitors, Rotor Derby combines the best of FPV racing with the explosive action of ASL drone combat.

This is an R&D event for the ASL community to play and refine the scoring, points and strategies for this exciting new sport.  We'll be trying several variations and options to insure this is the best game it can be for both pilots and spectators.

    ------------------------------
    ROTOR DERBY (the basics)

The Rotor Derby arena features a simple oval Darq Traq, with multiple gates spaced evenly around it. Each game consists of two teams flying against each other:

    Each Team (5 Total):
    1   FPV pilot (the runner)
    2  LOS pilots (the blockers)
    2  Pit Crew

Runners score points for their team by flying through the gates in order, while the blockers try to prevent the other team's runner from scoring.  The pit crew physically retrieve downed drones and repair them in the pits during the game.

ASL will provide a loaner fleet of spec HIRO 180's and 450's to use in the Rotor Derby arena, so the pilots can focus on dogfighting and scoring strategies.  Our drone fleet features standardized plug-and-play components, so the pit crew can keep their team's fleet in the air with no break in the action.

    -----------------------------

    Event Details:

We will be video taping this event so get ready for your big break!  This is not a huge public event, but it IS a chance for the local ASL community to rally together and workshop this explosive new sport or Rotor Derby.  We anticipate lots of opportunities for the community to help us create this new game.  We'll need FPV and LOS pilots ready to team up and try to figure out the best strategies to win.  We'll need pit crew, builders, safety officers, general help and of course, screaming fans to cheer on the action.

The space is a new drone co-working warehouse downtown and is under final construction.  Dress warmly. Bring your folding tables, chairs and all the typical gear you need for a day for ASL drone games.  Bring your combat drones and FPV bashers too -there will be plenty of time for traditional combat and short-track FPV racing.

Stay tuned.  More details to come....

Bring all your buddies that can fly los well enough to go in a controlled circle. Be prepaired to move from team to team as we work out all the logistics to make it entertaining and fun for ourselvs and the spectators. I am bringing my team 4 of us but we are ready to move around as needed...
