What we're about

When you hear the sound of an African drum does it get under your skin and make you want to MOVE? It starts with the Djembe, the drum that dates back to the beginning of modern history. We invite you to join a group of Djembe/African drummers who wish to "converse" using this wonderful instrument. We meet on Wednesday evenings twice per month at a private North Park studio. You can bring your own Djembe drum or use one of ours.

We've been hosting these Wednesday evening sessions for the past five years. Each "session" will be tailored to the needs and desires of the group. This group is focused upon people familiar with the Djembe. While we welcome beginners to observe, their participation will be limited. We start warm-ups at 7:30 and then will begin free form drumming until about 9:00pm. Emphasis is on fun and self expression. Everyone will be given a chance to play lead drum. If you want to share a rhythm, great! There is no fee for the event. However, if you wish to use one of our drums, there will be a $5.00 maintenance fee for use of the drum.

We'll be suspending classes until further notice, once the pandemic is over. Feel free to RSVP for a scheduled class, but know that it may be cancelled pending public health authorities guidance.
