When you hear the sound of an African drum does it get under your skin and make you want to MOVE? It starts with the Djembe, the drum that dates back to the beginning of modern history. We invite you to join a group of Djembe/African drummers willing to introduce you to the magic of drumming. We meet on Wednesday evenings twice per month at a private North Park studio. You can bring your own djembe drum or use one of ours.
Each "session" will be tailored to the needs and desires of the group. There is almost always a couple of beginners with us so we start with the basics; hand positions, Bass, Mute, Slap, Counting etc. The planned format is to work with less experienced drummers at 7:00 and then practice with more experienced drummers from 8:00 to 9:00. Emphasis is on fun and self expression. Everyone will be given a chance to play lead drum. If you want to share a rhythm, great! Class fee is $5.00, the use of a drum is an additional $3.00. First class is free. Proceeds are used to maintain the drums and add new drums for group use.
The format of the meetings will change to accommodate the goals of the group.
