Africans are no longer "rising" stars in technology; we're prominent players in the world's innovation economy.
The continent continues to attract greater venture capital from around the world; Africans continue to trail-blaze and innovate in established and emerging markets; and Boston, a thriving tech hub, talent market, and international conference center, hosts some of the largest employers of Africans in tech (Google, Microsoft, Accenture, and others), making this city a great place for African entrepreneurs and investors.
Africans in Tech, powered by Code Red (http://www.twitter.com/missioncodered), is a group for Africans and African Diaspora to gather for community, networking, mentorship, ideas exchange, and more.
Our vision for this group is to build a supportive and powerful network that enables the incredibly talented professionals and entrepreneurs in our community to access opportunities, unleash their potential, and make their mark.
But this isn't just another social meetup; we're a professional tech network of makers, investors, and connectors united by our passion for African tech leadership and entrepreneurship.
While we welcome a diversity of experiences and pathways to the innovation economy, this group is designed for especially for emerging or established leaders in:
• Data Science
• IT & Cybersecurity
• AI, Blockchain, and other emerging technologies
KEY PRIORITIES & ACTIVITIES
As this is a brand new group, we'll be focused on growing our membership, and developing the leadership team. Incidentally, if the idea of this group excites you, and you have some experience (or strong interest in) developing community programming, event planning, and communications, please consider volunteering as a co-organizer. You can submit your interest here.
The first event will be planned for later this summer, so please join the group in order to receive the announcement once the details have been confirmed.
Starting in September, members of this group can expect thoughtful, inclusive programming centered around technology, leadership, African entrepreneurship, and community, including but not limited to:
• Quarterly Networking Events
• Fireside Chats
• Demo Days
• Special Celebrations (yes, with music AND food)
As with all CODE RED events, we believe in diversity and inclusion, in the importance of continually checking our assumptions about what it means to be African or part of the African Diaspora--and more broadly, what it means to belong. As part of that practice, we'll be developing an official Code of Conduct for this group.
That said, in lieu of this document, please know that this group does not discriminate against any members based on their race, nationality, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, education, etc, and will not hesitate to remove members who violate our code of conduct.
We look forward to welcoming you to the community.
