Designed for African American and Africana/African-Descended Women, this book club is dedicated to uplifting work by African American Women Authors, both fiction and nonfiction. As often as possible, we will select work that addresses the life, experiences, and histories of African American Women and Africana Women throughout the diaspora. We will occasionally explore relevant works from authors from other backgrounds as well. The focus of our group will be to mix genres and create a stimulating reading experience. As much as possible, we will keep an eye toward ensuring a good mix of joyful picks to balance serious picks. If you are interested in reading fiction, histories, biographies, memoirs, cultural theory and more, with a focus on African American Women writers, then this reading circle is for you! This club will have a bit of an academic flavor, and will include lots of opportunities to network, share our own writing, and discuss interesting reads!
**Afrodemic Sisters Reading Circle is a group that is proud to invite and welcome African American and Africana/African-Descended Women, regardless of political perspective, religious background, educational background, socioeconomic background, age (18 and up), marital status, sexual orientation, or personal history. Welcome - Grab your book and have a seat!
