What we're about

FICTION! NON-FICTION! NOVELS! SHORT STORIES! MEMOIRS!

Are you a writer? Have questions about your work? Join our "Shop Talk" discussions & socialization the last Monday of each month. We're writers of all levels and experiences and we welcome pros and aspiring writers alike.

Some of us have experience with traditional publishing while some publish as indie writers. We also have writers who are beginning their journey. We meet in an informal venue to have some lunch or dessert, ask questions and share experiences in this crazy world of writing & publishing.

While that group is not a critique group, we'll try to help if you're having a problem in your manuscript. Bring a couple of pages of that problem area, formatted according to industry standards: double-spaced, 12 pt font, 1" margins. Please bring enough copies for everyone attending.

We have two distinct groups: one for socialization & trading info, and that group meets on the last Monday of each month.

The other is a series of paid workshops on the craft of writing - everything from how to avoid cardboard characters to creating a workable outline, as well as other important things you should know to succeed. That series meets on the 2nd Monday of each month.

For each group, we meet at Bob's Big Boy, I-10 and Calimesa Blvd, at 3:30 pm in their private back room.

Please RSVP to each meeting so Bob's manager will know how to set up the back room.

And while it's not a requirement, please consider having a late lunch, early dinner, or a snack to show our appreciation to Bob's BB for hosting us.

Thanks, and see you there!

From WRITER TO AUTHOR workshops - From Idea to Outline

This month's workshop: FROM IDEA TO OUTLINE: Do you have a great idea for a novel but no clue how to begin? An outline will be your map to help you make the journey from BEGINNING to THE END. Learn how to write an effective road map to help you stay focused and not stray on detours and dead ends. Or have you begun your novel but you're now at a dead end? If you're stalled, let me help you get back on course. During most of the classes I took on NOVEL WRITING, I was taught to jot down my ideas on index cards. I did so, then I had a stack of cards but no clue where to place them for an outline. I even tried organizing them on my floor, but still, I didn't know where the different ideas should go. I wound up with a mess. Then I learned the basic 3-Act Structure of a novel, and that changed everything. After many trials & errors, I learned how to jot down ideas on a page or two, then I could easily discover what worked and what did not. And I'll teach you how to do the same! Remember: KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! You may have a natural talent for writing, but will that talent lead to a successful book? Most pro writers learn and apply the CRAFT of writing. Today, natural talent isn't enough. Even naturally-talented artists, and concert pianists take lessons and practice, usually for years, before they become professional. So must a writer. Remember, writing is a profession. If you long to see your book in print, you must treat it as such. Attend our next 2-hr class Monday, September 9, 2019. $25.00 Cash before meeting begins or contact me for Paypal info. Feel free to bring pen & paper, notebook, tablet, or laptop for notes. We're fortunate to be able to meet in Bob's private back room. In return, they only ask that we all order something, a lunch, sandwich, breakfast, salad, or even one of their desserts. Most other places in the surrounding area, including Redlands & San Bernardino, requires a hefty fee for a private room, which means I'd have to pass it along to you. So let's appreciate Bob's Big Boy and their wonderful, private back room and make it worth their while. Thanks, and See you there!
