6 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike & Dinner

  • May 5, 2013 · 2:30 PM
  • The fountain at the park

Come have a nice 6 mile hike across the Brooklyn Bridge.

We'll meet at Madison Square Park at 23rd St and Broadway, (nowhere near Madison Square Garden), between the fountain and the "Shake Shack", and run a zig-zag course through interesting parts of Manhattan and across the Brooklyn Bridge. If Madison Square Park is filled with some event, we'll meet right at the corner of Broadway & 23rd.

Realize that if I want to meet you, I am not able to fall back and walk with you, because everyone in front of you will stop and wait for me.  I'm stuck at the front.  So I can only get to know you if you walk at the front and join in the conversation.

In Brooklyn, after showing everyone where they can get on the 2, 3, 4, 5 & R subways home, we will go a few more blocks to an (undisclosed) and affordable Polish-American restaurant for dinner in Brooklyn Heights. We expect to be starting dinner at 5:15pm.

<< Note: >> There will be NO bathroom breaks. If you need to use a restroom along the way, you will have to drop out of the group and find one. There is a deli on the corner of 23rd and Broadway, if you go there before the hike and buy a coke or something, you can use their bathroom.

We don't do head counts. If people disappear, too bad - it just isn't practical to go looking for them. By coming on this walk you assert that you are competent, if necessary, to find your own way home.

This event is provided free of financial charge in exchange for attendees relinquishing their right to litigate, and by attending, you agree that you and any guests participate at your own risk, and that you will not take any legal action against the organizers of this group for anything unfortunate that may happen during this outing. There is especially a risk that you will get separated from the group and lost, and if that happens the responsibility will be yours. We will be crossing a lot of streets, and you may get hit by a vehicle, especially if you jaywalk. If you see others in group, including the leader, jaywalking, that does not guarantee that it is safe for you to do the same. Every participant will be required to sign a liability waiver -- you can read the current draft at http://www.bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc

This is just a note to anyone who plans to park his or her car near the restaurant. The BQE will be closed westbound for a good part of the day due to the Five Boro Bike Tour.

Thanks, Rumana. I have a place planned out for the Brooklyn Bridge walk, though, we've been using it for 6 years and people like it pretty well.

I have gotten 2 good leads and identified 2 suitable restaurants for Central Park. We will still be doing Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday, May 5, but in June we'll do Central Park.

Bill, Central Park is very nice so why do not we have a basic picnic there instead of going to restaurant after walking ? Everybody can bring their own food and enjoy the park while having the snacks...then may be late dinner or drinks...

I'll think about it, but the idea really doesn't grab me at all. I like to sit down at a table and eat. I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that 1,500 people won't be able to find a suitable restaurant within 1000 yards of Central Park. I have some leads to try out, but would like to hear about more.
