• The Mysteries of Hemp: Roundtable Discussion & Happy Hour
You've probably heard the hype surrounding hemp products (CBD oils, vegan proteins, etc). But what about the legal hurdles to growing it? How can it fit into a more sustainable, ecologically-centered form of agriculture? And what opportunities exist when it comes to new product creation? As hemp becomes more mainstream in New York, we aim to support regenerative and biodiverse hemp agricultural practices. Our hope is for the industry to be rooted in holistic justice for our ecosystems and ourselves. Join us in an intimate conversation about the future of this plant, the barriers to entry into the hemp market, and the ways we can engage a variety of stakeholders in its production, processing, and distribution. We’ve invited several experts to share their insight, as well as a local hemp farm to share some product! Much gratitude to High Falls Extracts for providing CBD tincture for attendees to sample. Come join! Please BYO if you plan to partake in the happy hour. Photo Credit + List of Hemp-Related Resources: Ministry of Hemp (https://ministryofhemp.com/hemp/)

  • Agritecture Xchange Preview Pt. 1: Greenhouse or Vertical Farm?
As a lead-up to Agritecture Xchange - www.agritecture.com/xchange - we will be hosting a series of mini-talks on topics that challenge our presumptions. For our first talk, Luuk Graamans of The Netherlands will present a performance assessment of plant factories (vertical farms) compared with traditional greenhouses, analyzing resource usage in lettuce production. Luuk is a building engineer enthusiastic about investigating and designing resilient cities of the future through an interdisciplinary approach. The current focus of his work is the interface of building engineering and agriculture through a PhD position at TU Delft and Wageningen UR. His ultimate goal is to precisely quantify the resource requirement of plant factories and increase their performance through building design.
