Management is an easy target for humor, and some pundits advocate dispensing with management entirely. This stance underscores the fact that the quality of management can have a powerful impact on an organization. In this talk, I make a case for having management roles in an agile delivery organization. I discuss management as a practice: its origins, its career path, and its value proposition in agile practice. If you think management is just about demanding TPS reports and having pointy hair, this talk may change your mind.
Chuck Durfee is no stranger to the local agile community. He is a long-time event organizer for Agile Denver and Mile High Agile, and has spoken several times at local events. He also produces and hosts a weekly podcast on agile, leadership, and technical topics called the Agile Chuck Wagon. This talk is informed by a career that includes several years' experience in Operations, in Development, in agile practice, and in people management. Chuck works as a development manager in downtown Denver, overseeing multiple agile teams.
