Complexity in Action: The Future of Agile

Online event

In the Agile world, everyone talks about "complexity," but clear explanations and effective action can be hard to pin down. In this presentation, Glenda Eoyang, founding executive director of the Human Systems Dynamics Institute, shares her theory and practice of complex adaptive systems. Since 1986, Glenda has supported individuals, teams, organizations, and communities through complex change. Her action-oriented approach is simple and powerful.

You will:

* Distinguish four kinds of complexity in agile practice

* Explore the opportunities in adaptive complexity

* Learn three simple tools to tame wicked issues

* Access additional resources to continue your exploration of Human Systems Dynamics

About the Speaker

Glenda H. Eoyang, PhD works with public and private organizations to help them thrive in the face of overwhelming complexity and uncertainty. She is a pioneer in the applications of complexity science to human systems, and she founded the field of human systems dynamics (HSD) in 2001. Through Human Systems Dynamics Institute, she leads a global network of of over 800 scholar-practitioners.

Glenda received her doctorate in Human Systems Dynamics from the Union Institute and University in 2001, studying under Drs. Donald Klein and Kevin Dooley. There she discovered three fundamental factors that influence the dynamics of self-organizing change in human systems.

Her published works include scholarly articles in a variety of fields and Radical Rules for Schools: Adaptive Action for Complex Change (HSD Institute, 2013), Coping with Chaos: Seven Simple Tools (Lagumo Press, 1996), Facilitating Organization Change: Lessons from Complexity Science (Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer, 2001). Her most recent book, co-authored with Royce Holladay, is Adaptive Action: Leveraging Uncertainty in Your Organization (Stanford University Press, 2013)

A little Advice for Agile Product Owners

Online event

The Product Owner is probably the most difficult role to play on agile teams. To start with nobody seems to quite agree on what the product owner is: are they a Business Analyst, or a Project Manager? And do you need a Product Owner if you have a Product Manager?

Then there is a question of the team: should Product Owners lead the team? Are they part of the team? Can POs be shared across teams?

In this presentation author Allan Kelly will try to answer these questions and give some practical advice on what Product Owners are and how they should tackle their work.

About the speaker

Allan Kelly wants software professionals to enjoy more fulfilling and satisfying work. He helps teams and leaders on using agile and OKRs to improve the way work is organised. Happier people and better ways of working make for more effective companies and superior outcomes.

Despite being dyslexic he has written seven books - his latest is "Succeeding with OKRs in Agile". Between agile coaching and writing books he regularly appears in podcasts and as a keynote conference speaker. His website and blog are at http://www.allankelly.net.
