Like many companies, Quicken Loans has been on an Agile journey for several years. Over the last year though, QL has “rocketed” into the next stage in their Agile journey through use of the Scaled Agile Framework, radically transforming how their technology and business teams work together. Join us at our October meeting for a Lean Coffee format. Lean Coffee is a structured, but agenda-less meeting. Participants gather, build an agenda, and begin talking. Conversations are directed and productive because the agenda for the meeting was democratically generated. What do you want to share? What do you want to learn? What problem are you wrestling with that you'd like some input on? Bring all these and more to October's Lean Coffee Meetup for an evening of insights and learning. Agenda: 6:00 - 6:30 Dinner and Networking 6:30 - 7:45 Lean Coffee 7:45 - 8:00 Wrap up Many thanks to our Sponsor this month TusStar International! We're meeting at their office on Green Road where there is plenty of free parking. From the Agile Coffee website, a detailed description of the format: Write topics onto notecards (one topic per card). No limit to the number of topics. Set up a personal kanban board with three columns: To Do, Doing, Done. (Pro-tip: add a fourth column (“Actions”) to collect action items as they come up.) Spend a few minutes introducing each topic, sharing a sentence or two describing the idea on each card. Vote. Each participant gets three dot votes. You may cast all your votes on one topic or spread them across multiple cards. Rank the more popular topics higher in the backlog (the “To Do” column). Now that you have an agenda, move the top item into the middle (“Doing”) column. Set the timer (eg. smartphone) for five minutes — or whatever length the group determines is reasonable. This is the initial timebox for discussion. When the time limit is reached, hold a simple roman vote (thumbs up, sideways or thumbs down) to see if there’s interest in continuing the discussion. If so, set the timer for a shorter duration (eg. three minutes) and continue discussing. You can repeat this step as many times as necessary until the group loses interest in the topic. When the topic runs out of gas, move its card to the right (“Done”) column. Bring the next highest card over from “To Do” into “Doing” and repeat the process. At the end of the session, elicit key take-aways and/or action items from the group. Remember: it’s not an agenda until we vote on it.

Cross posting this wonderful event for this years Agile Coach Camp which is returning to Ann Arbor! It was at this event 10 years ago that Agile Groupies was born; attending this Coach Camp would be going back to our own roots!! Come join us as we both celebrate our 10th anniversary ! 2018 marks the 10th year of Agile Coach Camp. To celebrate it’s 10th-anniversary, we are going back to where it all began – Michigan. Agile Coach Camp is a peer-to-peer learning, exploration, and action based event that occurs in an Open Space environment. At Agile Coach Camp, people come together around a high-level topic or need and create their own agenda. Then, people gather into groups to brainstorm, debate, collaborate, co-create, plan, play, tell stories, and discuss the topics proposed on the agenda, known as the marketplace. As with the original coach camp held in Ann Arbor in 2008 and all subsequent coach camps afterward, you will work with some of the top minds in the agile community to develop your own conference agenda and have the talks that are most important to you.
