"Exceeds expectations" - performance appraisals in a collaborative world: Jon McNestrie
Traditionally, in large organisations, individual performance appraisals that are packed full of SMART objectives, stretch goals and core competencies are commonplace. In this talk we'll look at some of the incredibly dangerous behaviours that they can drive. By analysing the original intentions behind a traditional performance appraisal, we can start to think about better ways to judge the performance of a team. We can then recognise and reward individuals in a healthier and fairer way and create a valuable sense of purpose in the workplace.
Dear Mr Scrum Master, Welcome to the company: Steve Trapps
"Scrum Masters are sh!t and why are you here? You add nothing to this and...." This was the start of an email I received one week into my new role as a Scrum Master. How do I respond to the points raised, who do they think they are, what has previously happened to them that made the think this way? More importantly - where should I bury the body?
I'll take you through the points they raised and discuss my response to them. Do I win them over with my charm and persuasion, or give up and look for a new role?
The meet-up will be at Campus North in Carliol Square, we'll aim to start at 6:30pm. There will be beer and soft drinks and we'll have pizza too! Even more importantly there will be birthday cake!! Thanks to Campus North and to our sponsor Scott Logic (http://www.scottlogic.com/).
