NYC Airbnb Laws & Admin Hearing Crash Course with Attorney Brandon McKenzie

In the past year, the City of New York has drastically increased its efforts to crack down on short-term rentals. In response to subpoenas and private negotiations, Airbnb has turned over a great deal of host data to the City. Hosts in all five boroughs have been targeted by the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement and the Department of Buildings, and many such hosts have received violation notices with penalties in the tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars. This meetup is designed to be a basic “crash course” on Airbnb-related matters before the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (“OATH”). This Meetup will cover: - What is the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (“OATH”)? - OATH summons and OATH hearing basics. - What are some common violations that hosts receive in New York? - Liability considerations and steps you can take to better protect yourself. - Considerations in representing yourself vs. retaining an attorney. Our featured speaker is attorney Brandon McKenzie, from Moss & Moss LLP, a full-service law firm. The firm’s practice areas include short-term and vacation rental litigation and transactions, real estate litigation, landlord-tenant litigation, administrative hearings, startup and technology matters, and corporate counsel work, among others. The firm also works with vacation rental and property management companies on master leases, acquisitions, guest rental agreements, a wide variety of commercial agreements, M&A, and portfolio acquisitions. Thanks to Luggage Hero (https://luggagehero.com/affiliate-program/) for sponsoring this Meetup to keep it free for our members.
