[THURSDAY NIGHT VOLLEYBALL - BERKELEY] VOLLEYBALL & BEER @SAN PABLO PARK

***Hi Folks, we will have at least two net this Thursday. If you have an additional net you can spare, please do bring it. Otherwise, I will have to restrict the size (~28). Please post or message the host if you can bring a net.

Due to the softball leagues, we are switching our normal playing field from Grove Park to San Pablo Park (located just down the street from Grove). Due to the size of the park, please check the post for updates on playing location.

From feedback about our weekday games and attempts to avoid injuries, we are starting a pilot program for more competitive games during the weekdays. Players attending are expected to be at an intermediate skill-level.

How do we define intermediate skill level in playing with us?
Either Option will suffice:

  1. You took and received a passing grade in Volleyball 2B - Volleyball Fundamentals for Beginners taught by Coach Balshet.
  2. You understand the concept of "bump-set-spike" and can consistently/somewhat consistently play in that format.

From the previous meetups:
*Hi Folks, with the longer daylight, we decided to see if there would be interest in a weeknight volleyball. Great turnout & great games the past year so we decided to see if we can keep it rolling. This is solely for playing and getting some volleyball time after a day in the office. If you plan on attending, please sign up as soon as possible (note: we will have fewer nets and thus need to restrict the meetup size to a smaller count). If your plans change, please change your rsvp asap to open up a spot.
Please note that this volleyball meetup is an intermediate skill level (please see the description above for what an intermediate skill level is defined as). Games are expected in the format of bump, set, spike but players are not required to know setting finger signals, set zones, or responses.

Hope to see y'all there.

Just a few things to note:
• Feel free to bring your own drinks (there won't be a cooler provided by the organizer for weeknight games).
• Remember to sanitize between games.
• Most (if not all) players are already vaccinated and we played the previous meetups majority maskless. Feel free to wear a mask during the games.
• Volleyball games are jump-in/jump-out. There are no set teams/challenge the court. We encourage players to actively form diverse teams and welcome newcomers. We may balance out teams if necessary.
• We will prioritize newcomers and players waiting on the side before players are allowed to play consecutive games.
• If you consider yourself advanced, please keep in mind the skill levels of fellow players (most players play at a somewhat intermediate level).
• Keep in mind our residential neighbors and please do not leave trash in the park. Once our games end for the night, please do not loiter in the park.
• Finally, we strive for an inclusive and welcoming environment and being respectful towards fellow volleyball players. While we condone light trash talk during the games, we do not accept taunting or any behavior that is against providing a welcoming social environment.

Location: San Pablo Park (address: 2800 Park St, Berkeley, CA 94702). Playing on the side closest to Mable Street, near the softball field. Look for the volleyball nets.

• Message me if you can't find where we are.

We strive for safety, but the organizers for this meetup held at a public park are not held liable for anything that happens, if you bring guest(s) you assume full liability for their participation.

Basic Volleyball Fundamentals:
• Never touch the net during play.
• No blocking or spiking a serve.
• We encourage a Bump, Set, and Spike each time the ball comes over.
• Please bump the ball over to the Setter (front center position).
• The Setter is responsible for setting the ball after the bump for the person to the left or right to spike. If he/she is unable to get there in time, he/she must call help.
• Please wear a tennis shoes. Grass may have twigs.
• Remember your sunblock & bugspray.

[MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND - SATURDAY] INTER-BEG ALA VOLLEYBALL & BEER @TILLMAN PARK

***Hi Folks, a couple of changes for this weekend's volleyball:

- We are currently in need of a canopy for this Saturday, if you have a canopy you can provide (and be present from at least 01:00pm-05:00pm), please post or contact the hosts. The park location may be changed to Franklin Park if a canopy cannot be requisitioned.

- In an attempt to mitigate injuries and collisions, we are starting a pilot program to differentiate between casual play and competitive play. At least ONE net on Saturday will be designated as a competitive net. There will be at least TWO nets designated for casual play. Players playing on the designated competitive net will be expected to be at least at an intermediate skill-level.

You understand the setting position and know that the second ball is always the setter's ball unless he/she calls help. You understand each player's position and know where to stand.

*We are not looking for advanced players on the competitive net but simply want to avoid the rash of injuries and collisions that have occurred from inexperienced players. If you do not feel that you meet the stated definitions, we ask that you solely play on the casual nets. We encourage players of all skill levels to not be focused on a single net but form diverse teams every now and then.

From the previous meetups:

Please note that this volleyball meetup is an intermediate-beginner skill level. Games are expected in the format of bump, set, spike but players are not required to know setting finger signals, set zones, or responses. Please do not actively play call unless it is a competitive net.

We actively encourage regular members and players to help contribute to the success of this meetup by either providing volleyball equipment (nets, balls), non-volleyball meetup equipment (canopies, coolers, chairs, tables, etc.) or bringing snacks/beer to share. Newcomers are not expected to bring anything but encouraged to do so if felt compelled.

We start at noon and will end at 6:00pm. Feel free to bring any beers or chairs. The majority of the players' skill levels are beginner to intermediate.

Hope to see y'all there.

Just a few things to note:
• We'll have (at least) three nets setup.
• Remember to sanitize between games.
• Most (if not all) players are already vaccinated and we played the previous meetups majority maskless. Feel free to wear a mask during the games.
• If we have a third/fourth net setup, we'll designate that for more advanced/competitive playing.
• Volleyball games are jump-in/jump-out. There are no set teams/challenge the court. We encourage players to actively form diverse teams and welcome newcomers.
• If there are newcomers/crowds waiting for the next game, we will prioritize newcomers before players are allowed to play consecutive games.
• If you consider yourself advanced, please keep in mind the skill levels of fellow players (most players are beginner-intermediate).
• Keep in mind our Alameda residential neighbors and please do not leave trash in the park. Once our games end for the night, please do not loiter in the park.
• Finally, we strive for an inclusive and welcoming environment and being respectful towards fellow volleyball players. While we condone light trash talk during the games, we do not accept taunting or any behavior that is against providing a welcoming social environment.

Location: Tillman Park (address: 220 Aughinbaugh Way, Alameda, CA 94502). Playing in the large soccer field.
• Message me if you can't find where we are.
