What we're about

We are retired/almost retired single people in our 60s who believe that it is important to competently manage our finances. We pride ourselves on our autonomy but enjoy having a sounding board from like-minded peers.
**Why: We know that the best investment one can ever make is in taking the time to truly understand how our money works. We have a passion for learning and are curious about possibilities. We are interested in technical and fundamental analysis of equities and like to share our ideas.
**Who we are: We spend time researching the best ways to manage our finances in retirement. --We know what fees we are paying on our investments. --We know who John Bogle is.--We know the basic elements of investing. --We budget our spending and income to the out-years. --We are not in debt; we save money through mindfulness and good habits. -- We read investment blogs and follow stock analysts. We study investing and money management books. We are not financial advisors nor do we provide investment advice.
**How the group works: Most of our meetings will be held during the weekday in the Alexandria area.--We may provide an issue/decision we are pondering for group discussion.--We may discuss our favorite investment websites/analysts.--We may discuss the current market; we may discuss the tools we use for our investing decisions.--Some examples of issues to discuss: Best assets to hold in tax deferred and taxable accounts? –Best time to take Social Security? --Is the 4% rule safe? --Can a bucket strategy be successful? --How much to have in an emergency fund? --Is an HSA a good option? Are lifecycle funds a good idea? Is a Roth conversion a good idea? How to reduce RMD distributions?
**We will normally meet once a month for discussion. At our meetings we will focus on several topics that may allow us to increase our financial IQ. IMPORTANT NOTES: We are not an investment club. We have no business relationships with any financial advisory investment companies. Our discussions are for informational purposes only, and are not intended to provide, and should not be relied on for investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. We are not selling investments or investment management services. Members should consult their own tax, legal and accounting advisers before making any financial decisions.
