What we’re about

This Meetup group is the on-line social group for the Hillwood Road Meditation Skills Centre. We use Meetup to let you know about our social events and special workshops.  Our events attract people from a wide variety of backgrounds and give you a chance to mix, learn and laugh together.

The Hillwood Road Meditation Skills Centre, just 20 minutes north of Launceston, is privately run and is not affiliated with a religion or any other institution. At the centre, we are strongly committed to building a sense of community and we want to make sure that cost is not a barrier for people to come together for peace and sharing. The staff donate some of their time for free in order to provide regular low cost meetings and daily drop-in hours.  You can come to the centre for a cuppa and a friendly chat any morning of the week at 10:30.  On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can then meditate with a teacher at 11:00am.

Our get-togethers are suitable both for beginners and for experienced meditators.  Whatever your reason for meditating, the main aim of the group is to share the joy of meditation with each other, and to share our skills and stories about meditation.  Many people enjoy the atmosphere of meditating in a group, the contagious inspiration, and the warm friendships which emerge as a result of doing something peaceful together.

The meditation centre is a safe place where people can talk openly about their inner lives, including mental health issues and spiritual experiences. A variety of chairs, cushions, blankets and mats are available so you can make yourself comfortable without bringing anything.  Tea, coffee and herb tea are available.

Because we have a few meetings each week, only some of our meetings are listed on the Meetup program – or else our members would constantly be bombarded with invitations and reminder notices.  Many of the people who come along to meetings have heard of us through other channels, so they don’t RSVP on the Meetup site.  This means that our meetings are usually larger than they look on the Meetup site.

Our group meetings are facilitated by an experienced meditation teacher. The principal meditation teacher, Stephanie Legg England, is accredited by the Meditation Association of Australia, has degrees in Psychology and Human Sciences, and is an experienced counselor, therapist and celebrant.  She has been practicing meditation intensively since the year 2000, using a variety of styles of meditation and drawing on diverse literature about mysticism. Stephanie began the All Purpose Meditation group in August 2015 and opened the Hillwood Road Meditation Skills Centre in December 2016.
