This is a wonderful ride along the D&L Canal with views of the Lehigh River, the Bethlehem Steel Plant and the spectacular view where the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers converge. The path surface varies from blacktop, well packed and graded cinders to a short narrow dirt section between Freemansburg and the Route 33 Boat launch parking lot. There are restroom facilities on Sand Island, at a ball field along the Palmer portion of the trail, and in Easton at Wa Wa, Micky D's and at Forks of the Delaware Park. The route is slightly downhill to Easton with a few short ups and downs. Round trip distance is about 27 easy miles. Our riding pace will be 9 to 12 miles per hour with short stops at Freemansburg, Hugh Moore Park and about a 30 minute break at the turnaround point at Forks of the Delaware. Bring at least two containers of water and a lunch unless you plan to buy your lunch in Easton. Bring a bike lock if you plan to leave your bike unattended or ask someone to watch it for you. We will be employing the buddy system on the ride so that we do not lose any riders on a few potentially confusing parts of the ride. We will also be regrouping at the stopping points so that we leave no one behind. This will be what we call a "no drop" ride in the Lehigh Wheelmen Club. Helmets are required on this ride and are not optional. I failed to include this requirement when I first posted this event. You are welcome to change your RSVP if this requirement affects your participation.
