What we're about

There are a lot of different parties/club events and things to do out there apart from the normal pubs and clubs and this group will take you there. Weekends we often do clubby nights with a festival or kinky ethos - music tends to be electro/electroswing/drum n bass/techno, weeknights will have everything from spoken word to musical bingo to hip hop karaoke.

Almost every meetup will start with a few drinks somewhere so we can congregate and get to know each other before moving on to the venue.

Suggestions welcome... but please make sure they fit with the ethos of the group. If an event wouldn't make someone go 'oh, that's different/weird/how the hell did they come up with that one?' then it's probably not for this group.

Please do join the facebook group to share event suggestions too: https://www.facebook.com/groups/797845880393510/

A lot of the places we've been I have blogged about already here (and have a list of places we've been/will go to under Clubbing and Things to Do):

I ask members to contribute £3.00 to the running of this group. Besides the time and effort involved, I'm charged £200 by Meetup EACH YEAR to run the group so any help is appreciated. paypal.me/JaminaWard (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/my/profile)

A Curious Invitation Vampyre Ball

Century Club

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication in 1819 of John Polidori’s The Vampyre Come join us this Halloween to salute the first fictional vampire - Lord Ruthven - a lover of solitude and silence in whom an evil power resided. He of the dead grey eye, a face of deadly hue with a smile of malicious exultation upon his lips. He who stalked the drawing rooms of London, Rome and Athens and hurled his victims from the pinnacle of unsullied virtue down to the lowest abyss of infamy and degradation. He who mocked death and arose from the grave to continue to glut his thirst on the society ladies of 19th Century London. Polidori’s blood-sucking creation went on to inspire a two-century pantheon of fictional nosferatus including Count Dracula, Graf Orlok, Countess Bathory, Irina von Karlstein, Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt, Spike & Drusilla, Edward Cullen, Santanico Pandemonium and Count Duckula. Tickets and further information from https://acuriousinvitation.com/halloween2019.html ***** Dr John Polidori was Lord Byron’s personal physician and travelling companion. He was present, with Byron and the Shelleys, at the legendary evening at the Villa Diodati near Lake Geneva in June 1816 - the “year without a summer” - where the unseasonal weather lent itself to contemplation of the supernatural. The guests were invited to write ghost stories to pass the time, which led to the genesis of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Byron’s unfinished contribution to the evening - a fragment about a man who dies and comes back to life - was later worked up by Polidori into a short story - The Vampyre - which was published in 1819. The central character, Lord Ruthven, was based on Byron himself. The story was to inspire Bram Stoker’s Dracula and spawned an entire horror genre. Polidori, disillusioned and in debt, committed suicide two years later at the age of 25.

London decompression

Fire Club Vauxhall

This group goes to Decom every year. It's a place for Burners and those likeminded people to 'decompress' after the festival season. If you love burner events, or have never been and want to see what the vibe is like, then come to this. Tickets have sold out but I'd not be surprised if there were people reselling/gifting tickets closer to the time. This is an event entirely run by volunteers and abiding by the burning man principles.
