This year’s Grand Anarcho-Dandyist Ball, on Saturday 7th December at Bloomsbury Ballroom, London, will be a very special one indeed. We have persuaded Mike Livesley to present his version of Vivian Stanshall’s Sir Henry At Rawlinson End in its entirety.
Vivian Stanshall’s 1980 cult classic has been performed by Livesley (who takes on all the roles), with the help of former members of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, to rave reviews. The plot concerns Sir Henry’s attempt to exorcise the ghost of his brother Humbert, played by Stanshall in the film. Humbert, 40 and still peculiar, was accidentally killed in a drunken duck-shooting incident, while escaping trouserless from an illicit tryst. Humbert’s ghost will not rest until it is supplied with replacement trousers. This year would have been Vivian Stanshall’s 70th birthday, so our event will serve to culminate a year’s worth of celebrations for one of The Chap’s biggest inspirations.
Sir Henry and all the other 15 characters will be joined on stage by Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer, among other surprise guests, for a rousing finale of Vivian Stanshall’s Ginger Geezer. Elsewhere in Bloomsbury Ballroom, Auntie Maureen will be hosting the cocktail bar, where she promises, among other entertainments, to host a gentlemen’s knobbly knee competition.
