What we're about

We are a fun group of people who love the outdoors. You'll find us hiking, kayaking, or on skis or snowshoes. Hiking is a year-round activity for us, centered on the Carson Pass region in the summer, and nestling into the Sierra Foothills in the winter. Socializing is important to us, with potlucks and themed dinners. Hikes are sometimes followed with optional restaurant stops.

Snowshoe or Ski to Woods Lake from Carson Pass

Buckhorn Trading Post

Come frolic in the snow on this beautifully mellow trip, starting up at 8,600ft and going from just west of Carson Pass along a wooded trail - the old highway - to a junction where we turn south to go to Woods Lake. We'll take a lunch break at this beautiful spot and then head back up the same way. The round trip will be about 4 miles with a 400ft elevation loss & gain. It is suitable for Beginners or Intermediates and we will go at an easy pace but you need to be relatively fit to handle the distance. Make sure to dress in layers & according to the weather - bring a small pack to carry extra clothes etc.. Don't forget gloves, hat, sunglasses, gaiters, sun cream, water & a lunch. We will carpool from Buckhorn to the Meiss Snow Park on the North side of Highway 88 and just 0.1 mile West of Carson Pass. All cars parked here require a California Snow Park Permit. I have one and would appreciate hearing from anyone else who has one. They can be bought online with a Season Pass being $25 and a One Day Pass being $5. This trip will run depending on the weather & road conditions. I will post closer to the time to confirm everything.
