If you have never been along this section of the trail you are in for a treat. The Steel Towns Trail Cycling Event takes riders along the GAP Trail alongside the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers, from West Newton through the historic steel towns of Boston, McKeesport, Duquesne, Homestead, The Waterfront and Pittsburgh’s Southside.

The trail, recently completed to Pittsburgh, has a packed, crushed limestone surface for a smooth ride. Built mainly on abandoned rail beds, the trail is nearly level with the average grade of less than 1 percent. The ride between West Newton and Pittsburgh follows the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers and travels through many historic local and reclaimed “Steel City” areas. Along the ride you will enjoy the rivers, historic industrial sights, parks, bike-only river bridges and other interesting cycling sights to make the day enjoyable and interesting while supporting the mission of American Red Cross.

This is both a cycling event and fundraiser. There is a small registration fee, and Riders are asked to solicit donations for their cycling effort in support of the Red Cross . All proceeds from this ride will be donated to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and Military Family Support Services for our local Red Cross Chapters supporting Western Pennsylvania. These two American Red Cross Chapters, The Red Cross of Chestnut Ridge and The Red Cross of Southwestern Pa are responsible for the support of Allegheny, Westmoreland, Fayette, Indiana, Washington, Green and Armstrong counties.

Your participation will directly assist your neighbors in their time of greatest need.

All donors will receive a receipt from the ARC for charitable contribution records.
