We often hear the philosophical injunction "Know Thyself" and on occasion we may even stop to consider the nature of the Self.
In order to explore this nebulous concept in more depth we will take a look at two readings. The first is a recent article from The New Scientist entitled The Self: the greatest trick the mind ever played and the second is a chapter from Reuben Abel's book Man is the Measure: A Cordial Invitation to the Central Problems of Philosophy. The chapter is entitled The Person.
Questions that may help guide your reading and contemplation are: What is the nature of Self? What factors may enable the continuity of Self? What is the relationship between the body and the Self? and What is the relationship between the Self and society?

Looking forward to an interesting discussion.
