Talks & Drinks

Hello Rubyists!

Come and join us for another Talks and Drinks!

We're having two topics:

Willian van der Velde will present the basics of GraphQl, the `.js` implementations and how to setup a GraphQl endpoint in your Rails (/Ruby) application and his experiences.

Arjan Scherpenisse and Marten Schilstra will talk about Elixir, Arjan's focus will be Phoenix and then especially channels. Compared to Rails it has the ability to do things in real time easily. Marten will show you the business value of starting using Elixir/Phoenix over Ruby/Rails.

Some snacks and drinks will be provided and you'll have all the opportunities to talk to fellow developers.

Door opens 1900, the talks will start 1930-ish.

    Hi Rubyists!

As announced during this meetup, we have set up a Slack group for you and everybody else in this group.

You can sign yourself up via this link. (feel free to pass along): http://amsrbslack.codaisseur.cloud/

We hope to see all of you there, to make it easier to catch up, share knowledge, experience, and make the organisation of our meetup more community driven!

Please take the time to introduce yourself in the _introductions channel!

    Channels

We set up a few default channels, but please let us know if you need more.

    XMPP & IRC

We enabled the XMPP and IRC gateways because we know some of you prefer to use your own clients for Slack.

Feel free to reply to this email or (better yet) find us on Slack if you have any questions, concerns, or anything else you think we might be able to help you with.

    Cheers,
    Wouter de Vos

It's not quite Ruby but I could do an intro talk on Elixir + Phoenix if there's interest?

    • Marten S.

I could back the talk up with a "Why Elixir/Phoenix over Ruby/Rails"

      2 · July 30

    • Izel N.

I think a more interesting talk would be: "how to migrate a ruby/rails backend to elixir" perhaps via HAProxy etc.. for the brave :)
