We're continuing our monthly speaker series by hosting Lyft and BootstrapLabs to discuss how data science can actually influence companies' decision-making, sponsored by WeWork!

The night will kick off with a presentation by Marguerite Graveleau, Research Scientist at Lyft on technical use-cases in market forecasting and budget allocation, followed by a fireside chat with her, Luigi Congedo, Principal Analyst at BootstrapLabs, and Jordan Volz, Data Scientist at Dataiku.

6:30pm: Food, beer, and networking
7:00pm: Data Science as a Business Decision Tool: Forecasting Markets and Allocating Budgets by Marguerite Graveleau, Data Scientist at Lyft

Data Science as a Business Decision Tool: Forecasting Markets and Allocating Budgets by Marguerite Graveleau, Data Scientist at Lyft:
Good decision-making is key to companies and institutions running efficiently and overcoming unforeseeable obstacles. With the help of data science, decision makers are now able to make better-informed choices than in the past by shaping and filtering the data their organizations have collected. Data science teams will automate responses and run ad-hoc analyses to answer the specific questions of the decisions makers. In this talk, we will explore two examples of how science can build insights for better decisions, and automate them. We will dig into how to forecast a market supply and demand, and conclude by describing an example of automation of budgets.

Marguerite has graduated from Stanford in 2014. She has since worked as a data scientist in a successful European start-up of advanced data analytics for the energy sector, before joining Lyft and supporting the Growth Team.

Luigi Congedo is a Principal at BootstrapLabs, a leading Venture Capital firm based in Silicon Valley and focused on Applied Artificial Intelligence. Luigi is responsible for BootstrapLabs`s deal-flow screening, marcom, community engagement and portfolio support, where he actively advise the founders of BootstrapLabs’ portfolio

Jordan Volz is a Senior Data Scientist at Dataiku, where he helps customers design and implement ML applications. Prior to Dataiku, Jordan specialized in big data technologies as a systems engineer at Cloudera, and enterprise search technology as a technical consultant at Autonomy, frequently working with large financial organizations in the US and Canada. He holds degrees from Bard College and the University of Amherst, and is academically trained in pure mathematics.
