What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
A night full of potential and variety – seasoned comedians trying out a few new ideas and some newer acts trying stand up for the first time where you get a supportive, encouraging and non-judgemental atmosphere to just get up there and try a few minutes out. A kinder, human version of Simon Cowell. Come watch or do a 5 minute set, we will be drawing names from a hat until midnight. Please use the time to experiment and take a few chances. The neighbours are sleeping so no music please. Show starts after the other evening shows approx. 10.30pm - 11.00pm. For more info visit www.angelcomedy.co.uk/whats-on
Our Angel Comedy Writing Gym is a free space for comedy writers and performers to sharpen their pencils and stretch their typing fingers through a series of exercises led by and experienced tutor. These are for anyone in comedy writing - whatever level* - to get you out of the house, motivated, and writing, and also to learn new comedy writing techniques from an experienced comedy professional. It's also a chance to write with other people if, if you wish, and to meet with other performers and writers (meeting other writing people is often the hardest part of the job!). After the session, there will be a chance to socialise as the venue will remain open. The workshops, like much of what we do at Angel Comedy, are free at the point of service but there will be an opportunity to donate at the end of the session. *If you are new to comedy writing, we recommend you have a look at our Stand Up for Beginners Course and Showcase. The writing gyms, while open to anyone, will be designed with experienced performers in mind so might not cover the basics in such a thorough way. LATECOMERS NOT ADMITTED (You can be no later than 10 minutes late for this class)
From the land that gave you the 'Big Yin', Frankie Boyle, Kevin Bridges and The Krankies, the best up and coming and established acts from North of the Border come together for an evening of Tartan fueled hilarity. Hosted by Scottish Baldy Gary Sansome (***** Bunbury Magazine). This month's addition features Alan Francis as seen on Alan Partridge's Knowing Me Knowing Yule and Mid Morning Matters. Free Haggis to be won! £5 to reserve a seat or PWYW at the end.
This is a meetup for comedy lovers and those looking for a free fun night out to meet new people. The stand up show will feature a curated selection of up-and-coming talent from the comedy circuit, and sometimes even the occasional surprise drop-in by a tv face. Shows are free to get in, with the opportunity to make a donation on the way out. The show will start at 8pm and finish around 9:30. We will meet at 6:30pm to socialise before the show, and the bar will also be open after if you choose to stay. Don't worry if you can't make it by 6:30 - as long as you're here by 7:30pm we can guarantee your seat at the show. Please RSVP so we can keep track of how many people are coming - our shows tend to be very busy and we want to make sure we have reserved enough seats for everyone.
