  • Fast, Reliable JavaScript Development Using Angular, MeteorJS & MongoDB

Abstract: Time-to-market matters for software creation. In polyglot environments, the cost of context switching slows development. Companies must either hire specialists or expect engineers to be proficient with different programming languages. In the former case, team frictions impose an unavoidable cost to project work; in the latter, the overhead is a byproduct of the individual's fluency with varied languages. Isomorphic development reduces these costs. Especially when JavaScript is the lingua franca. In this talk, I’ll emphasize the benefits of using a full JavaScript stack. I’ll explain how to build Web and Mobile applications rapidly using Angular, MeteorJS and MongoDB. I’ll show that using Angular and Meteor simplifies realtime, reactive application development, thereby improving developer productivity. And I’ll detail MongoDB (the most-commonly-use DB with Meteor), the document data model, its query language, and demonstrate how it scales and handles fault-tolerance. Finally, I’ll walk through Atlas, MongoDB’s hosted database solution. At the end of this presentation, you will know how to install and configure a MeteorJS application, use Angular with it, and connect it to a MongoDB Atlas instance. Attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for Atlas and get a free developer account. Bio: Alim S. Gafar (https://www.linkedin.com/in/alimgafar/) is a technology evangelist and MeteorJS advocate. He is a founder and principal at DIRA Market Dynamics, a boutique market discovery and development company specializing in early-stage projects and companies. He is a veteran online startup specialist with nearly 20 years at five companies – two with successful exits. Over the years, he has held leadership roles in engineering, operations, marketing, product development, and consulting. He is one of only four Meteor Fellows in the world, a co-founder of Meteor Camp NYC, a former MongoDB community organizer and Developer Advocate, and the Co-Organizer of Meteor-NY. Alim holds an MBA in Finance and Investments with postgraduate work in Management and Marketing, and a BA in English Literature. He draws inspiration from science fiction, sailing, nature, his family, and his friends – not necessarily in that order. • Angular 2

    Packback Inc.

Packback CANNOT hold this many people. We will have to cap the attendance at 90 people. If you do not intend on coming, please change your RSVP so I can have a better idea of the real number! Unfortunately the group organizer is absentee so I cannot get a cap placed upon the event. If anyone has access to Brian Garafola please tell him to put a hard cap of 90 on any event scheduled at Packback! FYI, this presentation will be recorded and posted to the site as soon as possible after the event. Now that Angular 2 has been released, let's take a look at what's new! One of the exciting technologies that Angular 2 is sporting is the Angular-CLI. It is a great tool designed to do all that you need to do with your app. It can ease the pain of common tasks like generating the JS, CSS/SCSS/LESS/Stylus, Testing and HTML boilerplate for Components, Directives, Pipes, Services, Classes, Interfaces, Enums and Modules. It can also make the less common things like scaffolding your app, running your tests (Unit and E2E), linting and building your app easier. We'll discuss how to use this impressive new tool and discover whether all of those hours/days/months fighting with Yeoman, Grunt and Gulp are behind you. Join Jason Swett as he tells all he knows about the wonderful new Angular-CLI

This talk will explore a "right-way" of combining native code with embedded Cordova web components to get a more optimized UX on a targeted native platform while maximizing reuse of cross-platform web components. This native-centric approach allows developers to make the best choice when evolving features for their mobile apps. This talk will focus on leveraging Cordova and the Ionic UI framework to seamlessly integrate web components on Android and IOS mobile platforms.

  • Discuss Unit Testing, practical implementation techniques

Unit Testing Front End apps is difficult. How do you unit test code that is inherently meant to be triggered by a user action? Isn't that End 2 End Testing? I will present practical examples of how controllers, directives and service can be made testable. I'll even cover testing asynchronous functions.
