  • This location is shown only to members

AT THE CHELSEA MARKET LOCATION: The meetup will be held in the Chelsea Market building at 75 9th avenue between 15th St and 16th St.

ShowTrackr
Speaker: Sahat Yalkabov

Sahat will be giving a beginner-level introduction to AngularJS by building a TV Show Tracker application from scratch over the course of an hour. If you're interested in Angular and want to learn how to get started, this is the talk for you!

Afterwards, we'll finish off with some lightning demos which are quick 5-minute demos given by community members. Sign up now!

NOTE: Please do not RSVP if you are not sure you can attend. We will be taking measures to prevent consistently RSVP'ed no-shows from taking up spots.

Agenda:

6:00pm - Doors open, Food, Drinks and Socializing

6:10pm - Announcements

6:15pm - Talk from Sahat Yalkabov

7:30pm -  Lightning Demos (sign up here)

I started the list of Angular apps in the Discussion section. You are welcome to add interesting stuff. We are interested in fully working, Open Source Angular apps. Especially those written in well architected, well written code. Elegance is nice to have but is secondary to clarity.

    1 · August 20, 2014

Perhaps we can add an entry to @Vietnhi Phuvan's list of open source apps.

I'm seeking one or two collaborators for an open source side-project I'd like to build. I'm an experienced developer (20+ yrs), and have been working with Angularjs for just over a year. Collaborators should have a solid handle on programming in general and be comfortable working with javascript, html5, and css3.

The project will use Angularjs on the front-end and dropbox datastore api & github api as the back-end, with, perhaps, a minimal nodejs server just for handling authentication for the 3rd party APIs. We can start with a local server for development and then convert to node-webkit once things are working. Afterwards, we may create mobile versions of the app, using Cordova/PhoneGap.

The goal of the project is to have fun, produce a useful tool for developers who use GitHub, and to learn while building something real.

Contact me through my meetup profile if you'd like to know more.

In other news, I asked one of the meetup's organizers to contact the Google team and have the Google team put up Open Sourced Angular apps that we can examine, see how the pieces fit together, review, take apart and tinker with. I am thinking 30 to 40 apps. This is in addition to the official documentation. In the meantime, if we could collectively compile a list of Open Sourced Angular apps for the benefit of everybody in the meetup, that would be great.

Hi there, was wondering if you have implemented a no show policy? My batting average to get in the door or off the wait list is not good. When I have gotten a spot the room is usually 75% full. Can you tell us how you handle no shows (I.e. Three strikes, resets after 2 good shows, karma)? If not, I think we could
design a better meetup site that would handle invites.

    All the best,
    acg

Tonight's session was standing room only. I guess the message was delivered.

    • Vietnhi P.

If they sign up for the meetup three times in a row and they don't show up three times in a row without changing their RSVP, delete their membership. There are plenty of people who are stuck on the waitlist who want to show up , who can show up and who will show up.

Hey, thank you all for coming out tonight. I have only heard good feedback so far which is nice but I would really be interested in hearing feedback from others so I could improve my talks in the future. This is only my second meetup talk so far. So please send me an email to [masked] and tell me what did you like the most about this talk and which areas should I improve upon?

    Thank you!

I offer an opportunity to learn Angular with me and other experienced JS/Rudy developers on a fitness app (a REAL project).

You: Good at design (HTML5/CSS3, fountain/bootstrap). Some coding experience. WANT to learn AngularJS. We will discuss different implementations before we code (studying would be required).
Bonus: If you are into fitness and health. We have top-notch personal trainers.

Our stack: AngularJS (web/mobile)/RoR REST API/PostgreSQL/Bowers/SASS/CoffeeScript (optional). Karma/Protractor for testing.

I am a full stack javascript demon. I was compelled to develop a level of comfort with Angular on my most recent (and first) javascript consulting project. And of course, the familiarization included a couple of Angular frameworks customized for mobile. I am clueless as a UX guy and I will have to depend on you folks to tell me what you want. [masked]

Hi all, I've been very lucky to find the ideal match for this project. I thank you all for your interest and wish you the best. I can only take 1 person onboard to ensure good mentoring. I hope that some of the companies looking for angular folks can help you. Regards, Dan

We're hiring an Angular dev @ work (must be sr. dev, $$$$). I'm waitlisted - if others are too & cannot get in, I'd be happy to still meet in the area (i.e. in front of Apple store @ 14th st & 9th ave, at the tables)...to discuss the job we have available, Angular dev in general, etc.

If I'm able to get into the session, I'd still like to meet any folks interested in applying for our position @ the Apple tables (again, in front of the store, in the street) at 8:15pm. Please call or text me if interested in meeting up, or the job we have available. Thanks!
