SeaWorld protest

Please join the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida during our protest at SeaWorld Join ARFF in speaking out at this peaceful protest. These animals have no business anywhere near humans, who teach them how to do stupid tricks for entertainment. In February of 2010 an orca named Tilikum killed *another human unnecessarily, a death that could have been prevented had SeaWorld not pushed for trainers to be in the water with these animals. Who is next? All signs and leaflets will be provided. Saturday February 22nd at 10:00 AM

In the wild, orcas live in large , intricate social groups and swim up to 100 miles a day in the open ocean. Orcas at SeaWorld are confined to enclosures that to them are like bathtubs, and these animals are unable to engage in most natural behaviors.

Please watch the documentary Black Fish. It shows how wrongly these magnificent creatures are being treated. Its on Netflix or YouTube, and I'm glad I saw it because I had no idea how serious things were. Seaworld should not be allowed to continue this. Its literally slavery to force animals into doing tricks and starving them if they don't obey. Or stealing babies from their mothers only to keep them in captivity their whole life.

Does anyone have any interest in organizing letter writing campaigns to state and federal representatives urging them not to accept contributions from SeaWorld? Also, would anyone be interested in organizing a protest of Miami Seaquarium?

    1 · March 8, 2014

    • Ima A.

Hi Michael, I know there are a lot of groups out there already doing letter writing. Below are links to PETA and Ric O'Berry's Dolphin Project site. THANK YOU for contacting CA!! As far as Lolita protests, ARFF has did many protests at Seaquarium for Lolita over the years and I will message you the person who is organizing them down there now. I am sure they would love your help if you can make the drive down :) PETA: http://www.peta.org/b... Ric O'Berry's Dolphin Project: http://dolphinproject...

This is how change happens, person by person, protest by protest. We had a great crowd of beautiful souls, from babies to elders, all united to be voices for the animals held in Sea World's tiny tanks and ridiculous "exhibits." These protests are so peaceful and organized it's a pleasure to participate. I want to thank all the protesters, some of whom came from great distances. And to Animal Rights Florida, Bryan, Carla and the dedicated members, you all inspire us.

Any ideas of where to park over there?

    1 · February 21, 2014

      From "Ima Activist" posting below:
There are a number of grocery stores, restaurants and strip-malls at either the corner of International Drive and Central Florida Parkway or the corner of Central Florida Parkway and Sea Harbor Drive. Because the social media pages are open, we do not want to list specific businesses that could cause problems with towing activist's cars

It is horrible what SeaWorld does to marine mammals, they think helping out a manatee or dolphin here and there makes it ok for them to hold marine mammals in captivity, its wrong.

I heard there is going to be protesters against us too. I also heard it's mostly family of employees that work there.

    February 16, 2014

    • Ima A.

Hi Lucy, there have been counter protestirs there in the past, they are at another entrance, they have never said anything to us and we have notified the police that they are there. We anticipate no problems and look forward to another peaceful and successful protest. Look forward to seeing you there.

oh thank you for the help! I really would like to make it out, it's a very important cause I've been following for a while but I've never been close to a Sea World .. I do not have a Facebook so that might complicate things but if you could pass down my contact information to anyone that lives in the area I would love to come and support those poor captive whales :( I admire all who go and protest.

GREAT NEWS! As of January 1st the central Florida SPCA central Florida is no longer giving away Seaworld tickets with adoptions! According to my source at SPCA the reason they are no longer offering SeaWorld tickets with adoptions is because the contract with SeaWorld was up at the first of the year. It was never a permanent thing. We are glad THAT contracts up! :)

I will be at the SeaWorld protest and I will be coming with at least 4 people. Looking forward to doing what little I can to help. While I think about it, I've been seeing horrific news stories about Japanese Dolphin hunting, what can we do to help put an end to this?

    2 · January 22, 2014

HI Katy, Thank you for coming to the protest, look forward to seeing you there :) Ric O'Berry & his group is the organization directly involved with the Japan dolphin slaughter. Jan (or Bryan and Carla): I know the entrance is some distance from where we should park, so could you be more specific about what you mean by "further away"? What is the street and cross street for the best parking lot? What might be some of the stores or other landmarks that will distinguish the best parking lot for us to park in?

    January 18, 2014

  • J.D. A.

I hope the New York Times and the Orlando Sentinel pick up on the Huffington Post article that describes how SeaWorld cooked the numbers in its poll. It shows how desperate SeaWorld has become. Thanks for this link, Bryan and Carla.
