Polite actions needed for feral cats
(Please read below to learn how you can help)
In September, the city of Winter Park Commission voted to prohibit feeding feral cats in Mead Gardens and violating this will result in a $50 fine on the first offense, a $100 fine on the second offense and a mandatory court appearance for additional violations. Only one person spoke up for feral cats at this meeting.
After speaking with the director of the parks department again on Tuesday, November 15, he informed us that starting in January, he will be working with CARE Feline TNR to TNR the 20 - 30 cats at Mead Gardens. Great news! THANK YOU CARE Feline TNR, Inc.
Because feeders are leaving litter such as paper plates and cans throughout the park, which is one of the big problems (Which we have spoken to feeders about) , he has been researching online how to make feeding stations in the park. The park is making pro-active steps to resolve this problem, good. BUT the city commission needs to hear from more of us.
What you can do:
*POLITELY contact the city commission and park management and ask that they continue to work to TNR the cats and to recall the ordinance fining cat feeders. *They will be revisiting the feeding issue at Mead Garden and when a future mtg is decided we will post here. The park director said it may be in March.
Director of Parks in Winter Park John Holland (Who is working with CARE):
*Attend the next Winter Park City Commission meeting on November 28, 2016 at 3:30 PM to speak up for feral cats by asking the commissioners to recall the ordinance. *Note- This is NOT a mtg about the cats and cats at Mead Garden are not on the agenda. Rather, if you want to come and speak in support of the cats. Commission chamber addres is 401 South Park Avenue Winter Park
*Donate food for Mead Gardens colony feeders.
Please contact us if you can donate food and we will deliver to the feeders. Publix dry and or Friskies wet
*Help feed. If you live in the Winter Park area and can help feed we will put you in contact with the caretakers.
The date on the event is for creating the event page, and no particular date.
