i have no need to be alpha. never have. if i were to say what ann said to me regarding making sure we get the pronouns right, i would be laughed out of any rational conversation regarding rescue. sometimes we need to be taken more seriously. kelley

I usually quietly read and try to learn from the emails that are sent
between and among Animal ACTion Network people. But I do not want to be
silent now. We all have the same mission and want the same outcome
for any animal in need. I did not read anything in the least bit
‘condescending’ in the email suggesting that animals are apt to receive more
respect when called by male and female pronouns. Don’t we all agree with
that fact? I take all animal-rights activists seriously and respect each
and every one of them, but when I see this kind of nitpicking, I feel saddened
that we are taking attention away from our mission and instead focusing on
personality conflicts. Let’s not try to establish who is the Alpha in the
pack; let us all get along as equals and be kind to one another as we ask others
to be kind to the animals we so love! Thank you. Maggie Couch

ann, i have been in rescue for many years. i 'respectfully'
ask that you not condescend to me when i do not know the sex of the dog.
we are working for a good outcome, and in order to take you seriously you
should not be condescending or people will not like you & therefore
not want to be of any help to the cause. kelley

When a "No Kill" is full, they turn animals away. Where do
they go then? Who knows, but likely a kill shelter. Best
Friends in Kanab Utah, is the only truly no kill that I am aware
of.
In my experience, Dumb Friends league does the best that they
can. Until breeding is illegal, we can't blame shelters for
this. There are too many for the available home, yet breeders are
allowed to make money off of bringing more into the world.
I would also like to respectfully ask that we not call a living
being "it". Lamps are its. Animals are he's and she's and
theys. If we don't know whether they are a he it a she, it doesn't
matter to call them the wrong sex, but calling them it, like they are a
thing, gives the mindset that they not beings. That is part of the
problem with how animals are treated in this world. For me, all
animals are HE, unless I find out they are for sure she.
Thank you all for working to help this particular guy!!

Why not contact MaxFund instead of Dumb
Friends League? MaxFund is explicitly no-kill, whereas Dumb
Friends League is not. They WILL euthanize for lack of space if
their shelter fills up -- their web site says so.

jessica, if it's a purebreed, or looks to be
mostly of a particular breed, google that rescue & report
the dog situation to them. i'm in specific-breed rescue, so if
someone contacts our rescue with a possible abuse/neglect
complaint, we follow up and try to take the dog into our
rescue (people's homes, not a 'shelter,' until it gets
adopted- no worries about euthanizing). you could also call
animal control, and i would do that as a second option. do
something, though- that poor thing does not have a choice.
does the dog have access to food, water & shade/cover from
the elements? the dog can be seized on that alone, but usually
they will give them warning(s) first. chances are good it's
not housetrained & that's their reason for keeping it
outside. sadly, they would rather the dog suffer than take the
time to train it properly. PLEASE reach out again if you get
resistance or need more info. i will guide you. i have done
this many, many times. just this morning, as a matter of fact.
