We need to mobilize EVERYONE TO ASK THE GOVERNOR NOT TO SPEND ANY OF OUR TAX DOLLARS ON THIS CRUEL VENTURE.

It's an opinion piece from the Denver Post, sent in by

Chris Kaufman, President of the Pueblo City Council.

Pueblo: Professional Bull Riders University a worldwide draw

The City of Pueblo proudly stands behind its uniquely international and heritage-rich project, confident that the state will recognize the important role Pueblo plays in the economic future of southern Colorado and the state as a whole.

Regional tourism venues already exist in the Rocky Mountains and in the Denver metro area, so state leaders now have the opportunity to generate tourism from all corners of the state by selecting a year-round destination attraction in southern Colorado. If chosen for funding, Pueblo will be just such a locale as the home of the Professional Bull Riders' worldwide training facility, PBR University. Once completed, hundreds of bull riders, judges and bullfighters wanting to work in PBR-sanctioned competitions throughout the world will come to Pueblo for training in rotating classes held throughout the year. Of those who come, many will bring family and friends and extend their stay to enjoy all that Colorado has to offer.

Professional bull riding is the world's fastest-growing sport, with membership extending beyond the U.S. to Canada, Mexico, South America and Australia. Neighboring PBR University will be several venues that celebrate Pueblo's rich history, highlighted by an expanded Medal of Honor Memorial, a "Walk of Valor," and an aquatic center/water park for hosting amateur sporting events. The synergy of these singularly unique facilities will build on Pueblo's growing position as the center of tourism for southern Colorado.

Our project elements are specifically targeted to capture new out-of-state visitors, who will generate $76 million in state sales tax revenue over the next 30 years. Pueblo is asking for less than half of this new revenue ($33 million) to help fund the remaining 30 percent of the total vision. At the completion of the project, the state's total investment will represent less than 10 percent of total project costs.

Sitting at the major crossroads of Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 50, Pueblo is the gateway to southern Colorado. The state should take advantage of this potential and build upon the over $264 million in public and private investments already made in downtown Pueblo since 1993.

Hi!

I signed the petition "U.S. Government: Ban All Rodeos in the U.S." on Change.org.  It's SO important.  Will you sign it too?  Here's the link:

http://www.change.org/petitions/u-s-government-ban-all-rodeos-in-the-u-s

And please pass it on to all your friends and family!

Rodeo cowboys shamelessly ABUSE and TERRIFY helpless animals, RIGHT in front of a live audience!!  Help make it stop once and for all!!

Thank you,

Ann
